Stray From the Path Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Where the wounded go
For cold souls unaware
With no self control
I know a place
Where the broken and wounded go
You just sit back and listen
And just do what you're told
Never knowing how things
Could have been as you grow old
This is your time and it's wearing thin
Don't let this happen again and again
You can catch me in a storm
Of thoughts and prayers
Sleep away your American nightmare
I won't lie with you in your grave
Sleep away your American nightmare
Sleep, it. Sleep it away,
Your American nightmare
You just sit back and listen
And just do what you're told
Never knowing how things
Could have been as you grow old
This is your time and its wearing thin
Don't let this happen again and again
I may be wounded
I don't need to be saved
And though I'm wounded
I don't need to be saved
I won't lie, I won't lie,
With you in your grave
So put your fist in the air
To the sound of the new beat
The lyrics of Stray from the Path's song "Death Beds" speak to a generation that has been let down by their political leaders and society as a whole. The song is about the struggles of people who are wounded and broken, trying to navigate their way through a world that seems to have left them behind. The lyrics speak to feeling lost, helpless, and trapped in a society that doesn't seem to care.
The first verse speaks to a place where people who are wounded and broken go, a place where they can be amongst others who are in a similar situation as them. The second verse speaks to the idea of blindly following authority, never questioning what is being asked of them. The chorus speaks to the idea that people are caught in a storm of thoughts and prayers, trying to navigate their way through their American nightmare. The line "Sleep away your American nightmare" speaks to the idea that people are trying to escape their reality by sleeping or numbing themselves.
The final verse speaks to the idea that people can be wounded but don't necessarily need to be saved. It's a message of resilience, that even in the face of adversity, people can stand up and fight back. The final line "So put your fist in the air, to the sound of the new beat" is a call to arms to those who are feeling lost and helpless. It's a message of hope, that by coming together and fighting back, change can be made.

A band, with no gimmicks. A real message. And progressively gets better. This is why they're my favorite artist.

I discovered Stray from the Path at the Whiskey at Never Say Die tour with Despised Icon and others. I remember hearing them live and I was just.. blown the fuck away. I saw Make Your Own History at their merch area, I bought it, heard that entire masterpiece. And I must say it's among my top 5 metal albums ever. Stray From The Path, you guys are an insanely huge inspiration musically, and more. Thank you for giving me the anger I embrace.
