Universe
Stretch Princess Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes, at the back of my mind
There's space for you
I belong to nowhere more
Than you want me to
It's not such a beautiful thing
You tell me again
But it's the end of a universe
You love the idea
Of you and me here
(say you said so)
Do what you will
Always say what you feel
(say you said so)
(you can't have? everything
You can't have everything)
Sometimes, when you think of me
Do I get there too soon
I'm closer now to nowhere more than you think I deserve to
It's not such a beautiful thing you tell me again
But it's the end of a universe
You love the idea
Of you and me here
(say you said so)
Do what you will,
Always say what you feel
(save yourself)

(you can't have? everything
You can't have everything)

Overall Meaning

In "Universe" by Stretch Princess, the singer is expressing their complicated relationship with someone who they think about often, but who also makes them feel conflicted. The lyrics convey a sense of longing and displacement ("I belong to nowhere more than you want me to"), as well as a kind of helplessness in the face of the other person's desires ("It's not such a beautiful thing / You tell me again"). The repeated refrain of "You can't have everything" suggests that there are limits to what either person can achieve in this relationship, but there is still a desire to be together in some way.

The tone of the song is melancholy and introspective, with a sense of unresolved tension. At the same time, there is a sort of resignation to the situation ("Do what you will / Always say what you feel"), as if the singer has accepted that things may not work out the way they want. Overall, "Universe" is a poem of conflicting emotions and desires, reflecting the messiness of real-life relationships.

@Wayback2000 I would say 80s and 90s were best eras, right until about 2005 , since 2010 you notice a big decline in quality , music seems to be autotuned more and more and stars "fabricated" by the industry even if they don't have any talent , it's just like Courtney Love (love her or hate her ) predicted it would happen

That's why everything I listen is around that era...
