Blackout
Stryper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I realize I missed a day
But I'm too wrecked to care anyway
I look around and see this face
What the hell have I lost my taste

Don't want to find out
Just want to cut out
My head explodes, my ears ring
I can't remember just where I've been
The last thing that I recall
I got lost in a deep black hole

Don't want to find out
Just want to cut out

Blackout
I really had a Blackout

I grab my things and make a run
On my way out, another one
Would like to know before I stop
Did I make it or did I flop

Don't want to find out
Just want to get out

Blackout
I really had a Blackout

Don't want to find out
Just want to get out

Blackout
I really had a Blackout

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Stryper's song Blackout portray the confusion and desperation that someone experiences after a night of heavy drinking. The singer is realizing that they have missed an entire day due to their drunken state, and they are too worn out and apathetic to care. The next morning, they struggle to even recognize their own face and question whether they have lost their sense of taste. They admit that they cannot remember what happened the previous night and feel as though they were lost in a black hole.

Throughout the song, the singer expresses a desire to escape their situation without any further consequences or repercussions. They want to cut themselves off from the memories and negative consequences of their actions. "Don't want to find out, just want to cut out" and "Don't want to find out, just want to get out" demonstrate a yearning to escape responsibility without facing the harsh realities of their alcohol abuse.

Surprisingly good cover from a band that will never have experienced this...

The guys of Stryper grew up in the streets of Hollywood partying and drugging. They weren't Christians at the start

Peter Winston

Nobody’s born a Christian plus we all experience our own blackouts

........,It would be so epic if they would release this on vinyl!

Stryper covering scorpions? Oh my, this is great.

Nickolaus Pacione

This track shows off Stryper's heavier guitar work as I give them mad props for covering The Scorpions as I had Crazy World (Wind of Change is a very powerful track as they played this in the 2000s with an orchestra backing them. Wind of Change would fit Stryper like a glove as they are known to play ballads. That track made social commentary about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the U.S.S.R.)
