Born in Corona, Queens, and raised on Groshon Ave in Yonkers, NY, Styles began rapping with Jadakiss and Sheek in 1994, as they all grew up in the same Yonkers, New York neighborhood. They eventually signed to Bad Boy Records, formed the rap group called "THE LOX" which stands for "Living Off Xperience", and recorded songs with Notorious B.I.G., Sean Combs and Darren Blackburn. In 1998, The Lox released Money, Power & Respect w/ the hit song "Money, Power, Respect" feat. fellow Bad Boy, "Lil Kim" and Ruff Ryder Earl "DMX" Simmons. Soon thereafter, Styles P led the Lox on the now infamous quest to leave Bad Boy Records. When they were finally released, the Lox signed to Interscope. Shortly thereafter, a new Lox album and Jadakiss' solo album Kiss Tha Game Goodbye were released.
Styles released A Gangster and a Gentleman in 2002, as his debut solo album. The album contained the song "The Life", featuring Pharoahe Monch which was originally recorded for Rawkus Records' Soundbombing 3 compilation album. The follow up hit was the song dedicated to marijuana use, "Good Times (I Get High)", one of the most played songs of 2002.
In 2003, Styles P. and Jadakiss appeared on the "Oz Soundtrack" with one of the harder edged songs "Some Niggas" about prison life. On a mixed album with several songs about the lifestyle behind bars, "Some Niggas" was one of the fiercest and most remembered songs on the street from that album.
In 2004, Styles P. released the mixtape Ghost Stories in limited distribution form (NY only) -- the mixtape spread to other cities and onto the internet in the next year. He was featured on the hit song "Locked Up", by R&B artist Akon.
In 2005, Styles P. received local market airplay for his and Jadakiss' remix of Mariah Carey's mega-hit "We Belong Together", and on Miri Ben-Ari's album, The Hip-Hop Violinist; he features on the track "We Gonna Win". He released two stand-alone mixtapes in complete form: Ghost in the Shell in the spring of 2005 and Ghost in the Machine in the Fall.
Styles P. has been featured on many rappers' albums including Ghostface Killah, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, and Akon's albums. Styles is rumoured to appear on DMX's new album Walk With Me Now and You'll Fly With Me Later. He will also appear on the title track to The Roots' latest album, Rising Down.

Itβs all about the money you gotta know this
Word
Probly backin' up at motorway
Old hoopty but we just put the motor in
This the whip, that niggas yelling YOLO in
Gun under my arm like itβs deodorant
They put a soda in
I donβt sip the liquor, I take a gulp
Fuckinβ with a nigga
Thatβs strong enough to face the hulk
44 long cuz Shorty was all wrong
Thought he was thugged out
Now his face is all wrong
I donβt care about their fam
Iβll make them all mourn
There were Biggie and Sean Combs
Was taking broads home
On the phone with the chick
Crystal bitches and ace hoes
Itβs money in my name like Ma$e though
Body broad daylight, nigga no case though
Fuck the funny money niggas
I get straight dough
Niggas talkinβ like they got something for me
Nigga, you and what army? Dawg
Niggas grippinβ over here
Hit you with a hundred then I
Blow it in the air
Got a line of some dope
From this bitch named Tammy
Tammyβs from Miami, round all the nose Candy
Bronze tanned on her like Iβm
Walking with the Grammy
Ex nigga popped, he flopped and turned Sammy
I ainβt for the bull sign of a setup then
A triggerβs getting pulled
Thinkinβ that itβs thriller when
My nigga turned wolves
Do as Simon says like the β95 Suge
All red on, death row chain
MGM fight night, Orlando was to blame
Outcome was the same
Dead on arrival, death to my rivals
Empty out the clips
Spin a nigga like a spiral
YUGH! Thatβs the stairway to heaven nigga
On my big shit, waitinβ on the seven nigga
Order cocaine white like a wedding nigga, woo
The kingβs stuntinβ on these peasant niggas
Push
Itβs like ring around the RosΓ©
Hand on the bottle, sit back and get coz ay
Still killinβ that white bitch, OJ
Knocking 'Homecoming' from Kanye and Coldplay
It was me and Jose in the hallway
House full of dope with the
Pump by the doorway
True story, niggas'll shoot for me
But I ride out
You heard more than a few stories
I wild out, throw you off of a 2-story
Nigga, just to break your leg
Your connect got the work
Nigga tryna break an egg
Yea, so hurry up and get it poached
Get the feds give ya life when
Youβre fuckinβ with the dope
Catch me in LA fucking with the smoke
Or maybe in San Fran
With an OG nigga that used
To get it on Pan-Am what?
In "Gripping Over Here" by Styles P, the lyrics paint a vivid picture of a dangerous and gritty lifestyle driven by money and power. The opening lines set the tone, emphasizing the importance of money and the need to be aware of its significance. The reference to backing up at a motorway with a newly installed motor in an old car suggests finding ways to upgrade and improve their circumstances despite limited resources. The line about carrying a gun under his arm like deodorant speaks to the constant need for protection and the willingness to use violence if necessary.
The lyrics also delve into the singer's confident and fearless persona. They boast about their ability to handle tough situations, using a Hulk analogy to illustrate their strength and resilience. There is a disregard for others' families and a willingness to cause harm, as evidenced by the line about making them all mourn. The mention of Biggie and Sean Combs alludes to a lifestyle of partying and casual relationships. The lyrics emphasize an unwavering focus on making money and dismissive attitude towards those who pose a threat.
The second verse introduces a character named Tammy from Miami, who is involved in the drug scene. The reference to her tanned complexion and association with Grammy awards suggest a glamorous but dangerous lifestyle. There is a mention of someone who betrayed the singer, leading to their demise, reinforcing the harsh consequences of disloyalty. The lyrics also touch upon the singer's reputation and influence, comparing themselves to Suge Knight and making references to Death Row Records and Las Vegas fights. The imagery of emptying out clips and spinning a person like a spiral adds to the aggression and brutality depicted in the song.
Overall, "Gripping Over Here" showcases a world where survival, money, and power take precedence. The lyrics depict a life filled with danger, violence, and a constant pursuit of status and success.
