Hard disagree. Cronin had a very good voice but is average for his own decade. Throw some of the folks who could really belt it out in the 50/60/70 decades and he's a passable vocalist, but far from underrated. He is what he is -- wrote some great pop songs and I appreciate him for it, especially this one.. BTW, he's nothing without Gary Richrath.

I remember the first time I heard this Song , I was driving in LA in My 72 Plymouth Cuda. The feedback at the Beginning startled Me, because I thought there was something wrong with My Radio, Lol! Hi Infidelity and Back in Black were two albums released about the same time in 1980 that just ripped through every high school in America and were both "must have" albums, because of format changes, damage and loss I've bought both of them so many times over the years I couldn't keep track if I wanted to.
I consider myself lucky to have been the perfect age, 15, in 1980 when they were released, thank God I was that age in 80 when they came out instead of 85 or 86 when rap music was taking hold, I've always felt bad for kids that had it as their legacy music from high school, if there's two kinds of music that makes me want to gouge out my own eardrums with an ice pick it's rap and country, a song from either one of those and I'll almost wreck diving for the buttons on a car radio.

I was in 10th grade when Hi InFidelity came out. I had casually listened to rock before but it was Gary Richrath's frggin' wall-o-sound in this song that turned me forever into a rocker. Hi InFidelity was the first album I ever bought with my own hard earned money. Now I'm going to see them in 6 weeks, the day before my 50th birthday. Just wish Gary was still with them. Oh my...this brought something back. One of the last times my Husband deployed, he absolutely savaged my heart. It would have been less painful if he had just put a bullet in my head. I began praying nonstop and fervently for the Lord to take him, I didn't want him back! Please Lord, just take him! A couple weeks on and my prayers are still fervent and full of venom. One afternoon, I was vacuuming in the den when I felt pushed to the floor with the understanding that I needed to pray for my Husband's safety like I had never prayed before! I found out, after his safe return, that at the exact same time as the den incident, they were taking serious fire and weren't in the best place, as for cover. Everyone came home safely and we celebrated 32yrs this summer. And he's still my Hero. ❤🇺🇲 Thank you for this song. 🙏🥰

Why do I never hear Gary Richrath's name mentioned when great rock and roll guitarists are discussed? I know he's not Clapton or Beck, but few guitar players have ever made me reach for my air guitar faster than GR. I never even hear more recent players mention him as an influence- his name simply never comes up except by fans of REO. I can't understand that- the man was great.

In 1980 I was 20 years old. Really liked REO's music, but they were a minor player...a cult band...until this album. This was the first hit off of High Infidelity. One of the greatest songs ever written.

I was 19 years old in 1980. Had graduated a year earlier and was steeped in a lot of ELP, Genesis, Pink Floyd and had already run thru the 60s classics. At New Paltz I heard all the best New Wave, Punk etc and the 70s was history. Joy Division, Wire, Sort Sol, Comsat Angels, Death in June ruled the world. So I missed out on 80s American rock. Heard it here and there, it was ok. Now I've discovered Ask the Lonely and I'm totally sold!

My brother has been working for Colombia Records for 19 years before that he worked for United Artist's. He works in recording. He actually fixes mistakes on the records during recording. Most bands need lots of touching up taking several weeks to complete. He said that studio recordings by rappers take the longest time to fix due to their lack of musical talent and understanding of the equipment. REO and Boston's albums normally take a few days. Sometimes without changing anything except sounds picked up in the studio. Foot tapping is the number one culprit.

I absolutely treasure the time I spent in the mid to late 80's, but I truly wish I would have been born a decade earlier, meaning I wish I could have been of the age to truly appreciate masterpieces like this. In the guise of kind of a bubblegum pop rock song, this is some first rate musicianship and vocal work. Whether you like their songs or no is a matter of taste, but that these guys could play and deliver the goods ain't up for debate.

First time I heard this song was spring 1981. My co-worker pulled his brand new Datsun 280-Z up to the front of the office and put the Album "High Infidelity" in his tape deck and turn the volume up to max. First song out was "Don't let him go" I was 15 and first time I had heard Reo Speedwagon. Been a fan ever since that night.
