Tim met ex-drummer Ben Davis during a cigarette break at school. Ben (who then played bass) and Tim started to play together on a regular basis until Tim invited Airin Older, a fellow classmate, to join. Ben was moved to the position of drummer and Airin filled in for Ben on bass. Marko DeSantis was added into the band after meeting Tim back stage at a Superdrag concert. The pair apparently met because Tim was wearing a suit that resembled the one Marko wore to the show. Tim asked Marko to join the band before even hearing Marko play a single note on the guitar.
In the Summer of 2004, the critically acclaimed "Vans Warped Tour" featured Sugarcult, who were, in fact, the final band to play at the year's tour.
After the tour, the Band teamed up with Green Day, and New Found Glory on their tour of the US, and were a huge success.
In 2006, The EA Games title "Burnout 3: Takedown" featured the song "Memory" from the Album "Palm Trees and Power Lines" and was an instant success.
After years of touring and recording, Ben was asked to leave the band due to his extensive alcoholism. Ben has said he would rather be sober out of the band than drunk and still in the band. Kenny Livingston was drafted into the band after recording Palm Trees And Power Lines and touring with the band.

Sugarcult Lyrics

What we needed turned it's back so
Out-loud, we're telling your secrets
Out-loud, to the lovers and fees
Out-loud, 'cause you never experienced
This is the side of us nobody sees
We're making something beautiful
We've got this under our control
Starting a fight
What you wanted couldn't hold us now
What we needed all came crashing down
Down, with the lies and cover ups
Down down, to the lovers and fees
Down now, 'cause you never experienced
This is the side that I'll never believe in
We're making something beautiful
Starting a riot
We've got this under our control
Starting a fight
We're making something
We're taking nothing
We're starting something beautiful
Start a riot
What you wanted
We're making something beautiful
Starting a riot
We've got this under our control
Starting a fight
We're making something
We're taking nothing
We're starting something beautiful
Start a riot (Hey, hey)
Riot (Hey, hey)
Riot (Hey, hey)
The lyrics to Sugarcult's song "Riot" speak of a rebellion against something that was once desired (what you wanted) but failed to fulfill and left the individuals (what we needed) feeling let down. The singer emphasizes the need to speak out, to reveal secrets and to express themselves loudly and openly because they feel that their true selves are not visible to others. There is a sense of anger and frustration in the lyrics as they confront the lies and cover-ups, and express the desire to start a riot, to fight back and create something new and beautiful.
The phrase "starting a riot" is used repeatedly, implying a sense of initiating change, causing disruption, and asserting their independence. The lyrics suggest that the individuals are taking control of their own narrative and refusing to conform to what is expected of them. The lyrics also mention lovers and fees, which could be interpreted as a message to those who have taken advantage of them or exploited their vulnerabilities. The song is ultimately about self-empowerment and finding strength within oneself to rebel against the status quo and create something new.
Overall, the lyrics of "Riot" convey a sense of rebellion, passion, and a desire for change. The singer encourages the listener to be true to themselves, to speak out, and to start a riot if necessary to express their authentic selves.
