Tim met ex-drummer Ben Davis during a cigarette break at school. Ben (who then played bass) and Tim started to play together on a regular basis until Tim invited Airin Older, a fellow classmate, to join. Ben was moved to the position of drummer and Airin filled in for Ben on bass. Marko DeSantis was added into the band after meeting Tim back stage at a Superdrag concert. The pair apparently met because Tim was wearing a suit that resembled the one Marko wore to the show. Tim asked Marko to join the band before even hearing Marko play a single note on the guitar.
In the Summer of 2004, the critically acclaimed "Vans Warped Tour" featured Sugarcult, who were, in fact, the final band to play at the year's tour.
After the tour, the Band teamed up with Green Day, and New Found Glory on their tour of the US, and were a huge success.
In 2006, The EA Games title "Burnout 3: Takedown" featured the song "Memory" from the Album "Palm Trees and Power Lines" and was an instant success.
After years of touring and recording, Ben was asked to leave the band due to his extensive alcoholism. Ben has said he would rather be sober out of the band than drunk and still in the band. Kenny Livingston was drafted into the band after recording Palm Trees And Power Lines and touring with the band.

Saying Goodbye
Sugarcult Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And waves her middle finger high,
Never gonna mess with her again,
Drama queen, just 17,
Sleeping with the boys for free,
Gotta reputation being easy,
Every time they put her down,
And tears come down,
She packs her bags and plans to run away.
She's saying goodbye,
And leaving tonight,
She's wasted all her lonely teardrops,
She's saying goodbye,
And leaving tonight,
She's used up all her lonely teardrops now.
She thinks about herself,
And cares about nobody else,
Because the only friends she has all put her down,
They hate her when she's beautiful,
But even more when she's the fool,
They talk behind her back when it's her birthday.
Every time they put her down,
She makes a fist,
And tears come down,
She packs her bags and plans to run away.
And every time she makes a friend,
The vicious cycle starts again,
She's never ever, ever looking back.
She's saying goodbye,
And leaving tonight,
She's wasted all her lonely teardrops,
She's saying goodbye,
And leaving tonight,
She's used up all her lonely teardrops now.
(Oh, oh, oh)
She's saying goodbye,
She's wasted all her lonely teardrops,
She's saying goodbye,
She's used up all her lonely teardrops now,
Every time they put her down,
She makes a fist,
And tears come down,
She packs her bags and plans to run away, from here,
And every time she makes a friend,
The vicious cycle starts again,
She's never ever, ever looking back.
She's saying goodbye,
And leaving tonight,
She's wasted all her lonely teardrops,
She's saying goodbye,
And leaving tonight,
She's used up all her lonely teardrops now,
She's wasted all her lonely teardrops now.
In "Saying Goodbye" by Sugarcult, the lyrics focus on a teenage girl who is tired of the drama and negativity in her life. She is described as a "drama queen" who sleeps around and is considered easy by her peers. Despite the judgement and criticism from others, she tries to defend herself by making fists and crying. However, she eventually decides to leave everything behind and say goodbye to her lonely tears. She realizes that she has to start caring about herself first, and she can't rely on anyone else for happiness or support. The repetition of "saying goodbye" throughout the chorus emphasizes her determination to move on and escape the toxic environment she's been in.
The emotional themes in this song are relatable to many young people who have experienced bullying or social pressure. The singer is portrayed as someone who is trying to find her own identity and and values in a world that rejects her. The song acknowledges the reality of social hierarchies and cliques in high school, but also encourages seeking out personal independence and self-respect. The middle finger gesture mentioned in the first verse reveals a defiant and rebellious attitude that contrasts with her vulnerable expressions of pain. Overall, "Saying Goodbye" captures the angst and confusion of adolescence, while also delivering a message of self-empowerment and hope.
