Natalio Ruiz El Hombrecito del sombrero gris
Sui Generis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Aprendí a disimular mi estupidez

Bienvenida Cassandra
Bienvenida el sol y mi niñez
Sigue y sigue bailando alrededor
Aunque siempre seamos pocos los que
Aun te podamos ver

Les contaste un cuento sabiéndolo contar
Y creyeron que tu alma andaba mal
La mediocridad para algunos es normal
La locura es poder ver más allá

Baila y baila, Cassandra

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sui Generis's song Natalio Ruiz El Hombrecito del sombrero gris tell the story of a woman named Cassandra who is described as being beautiful and exact in a world that seems to lack these qualities. The singer meets her while she is "naked with cold" and his reaction is to hide his own stupidity. One can interpret the meeting as a metaphor for finding something beautiful and true that has always been present but has gone unnoticed.

Cassandra is welcomed by the singer and is compared to the sun and the singer's childhood. She dances around, captivating the attention of those who have the ability to see and appreciate her beauty. It is clear that the singer sees Cassandra as something special, something out of the ordinary. He contrasts her with those who are content to live mediocre lives, unable to see beyond the surface of things. This is where the reference to "two plus two equals three" comes in, highlighting the confusion and blindness of those who cannot see what is in front of them.

The chorus is a plea for Cassandra to keep dancing despite the fact that there are few who can appreciate her. It is almost as if the singer is trying to preserve the moment, knowing that Cassandra cannot dance forever and that eventually, she will be forgotten.

Overall, the song is a celebration of beauty, truth, and the ability to see beyond the surface of things. It is a reminder that there is meaning and beauty in the world if we are willing to look for it.
