March
Suikoden Gaiden Vol. 1 Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And we're dying with every step we take
We're dying with every breath we make
And all fall in line
A stranger's back is all I see
He's only a few feet in front of me
And all look left and right sometimes
No one looks up anymore
'Cause you might get a raindrop in your eye
And heaven forbid, they see you cry
As we fall in line
And about this time of every year
The Line will go to the ocean pier
And walk right off into the sea
Then we fall asleep
As we near the end of land
And our ocean graves are just beyond the sand
I ask myself the question, why
I fall in line
Then out of the corner of my eye
I see a spaceship in the sky
And hear a voice inside my head
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me
Then the wages of war will start
Inside my head with my counterpart
And the emotionless marchers will chant the phrase
This line's the only way
Then I start down the sand
My eyes are focused on the end of land
But again the voice inside my head
Says, follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Follow me instead
Take me up
Seal the door
I don't want to march here anymore
I realize that this line is dead
So I'll follow you instead
So then you put me back in my place
So I might start another day
And once again, I will be
In a march to the sea
The lyrics in Suikoden Gaiden Vol. 1's song March depict the strong bond between the singer and their faith. It expresses the notion that when faced with hardships, the only one who truly understands their pain is their faith. Despite all the challenges, their faith has always been present to support and comfort them. The singer's faith helps them through their tears and troubles and they know it'll always be with them, no matter what the future holds. The lyrics highlight the fact that their faith is the only one who truly cares about them and stays with them through thick and thin. They are not ashamed to express their feelings and love for their faith, as it is their everything.

Still one of the best visual novel I've ever read, from a time when Konami made great games. Always bring back memories to watch this opening.

Thank you SO MUCH for upgrading these!! We're at an era in the gaming industry where Japanese exclusives are finally getting localized and cancelled/unfinished games are finally getting finished and re-released to the masses, years or decades later. I hope that Eiyuden Chronicle's success pushes Konami to either release a Suikoden Collection or a localization of the Suikogaiden games. I know this is [Modern] Konami we're talking about so I'm not getting my hopes up. But a little optimism wouldn't hurt, either.
