Cruel
Suiter No.2 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We crossed the line
Who pushed who over?
It doesn't matter to you
It matters to me

We're cut adrift
We're still floating
I'm only hanging on
To watch you go down
My love

I disappeared in you
You disappeared from me
I gave you everything you ever wanted
It wasn't what you wanted

The men who love you, you hate the most
They pass through you like a ghost
They look for you, but your spirit is in the air
Baby, you're nowhere

Oh love
You say in love there are no rules
Oh love
Sweetheart,
You're so cruel

Desperation is a tender trap
It gets you every time
You put your lips to her lips
To stop the lie

Her skin is pale like God's only dove
Screams like an angel for your love
Then she makes you watch her from above
And you need her like a drug

Oh love
You say in love there are no rules
Oh love
Sweetheart,
You're so cruel

She wears my love like a see-through dress
Her lips say one thing
Her movements something else
Oh love, like a screaming flower
Love, dying every hour, love

You don't know if it's fear or desire
Danger the drug that takes you higher
Head in heaven, fingers in the mire

Her heart is racing, you can't keep up
The night is bleeding like a cut
Between the horses of love and lust
We are trampled
Underfoot

Oh love
You say in love there are no rules
Oh love
Sweetheart
You're so cruel

Oh love
To stay with you I'd be a fool
Oh, huh

Sweetheart
You're so cruel

Overall Meaning

The song "Cruel" by Suiter No.2 is about a dysfunctional love that has turned into a painful situation. Whoever is singing this song had a relationship with someone, and they've gone too far, crossing the line. They don't know which one of them made them take the step, but it doesn't matter to the other person. However, it does matter to the singer. They feel like they are cut off from the rest of the world, but still trying their best to cling on to the remnants of the relationship, even though they know it's a lost case.

The lyrics are poignant, depicting the pain of losing someone you love or thought you loved. There is bitterness and regret in the tone of the lyrics. The singer gave everything they ever wanted, but it turns out that what they wanted was not what the other person wanted. They also see that the person they love hates the people who love them the most. It’s a heartbreaking image as the singer sees the love of their life as some kind of ethereal entity, floating in the air, and nowhere to be found.

The singer finds themselves in a desperate situation, in a tender trap, and they cannot help it. They know they are following the wrong path, but they can't stop themselves from being pulled in. The desperation in their heart is palpable, and the other person can feel it too. The singer paints a vivid picture of the scene as their love lies in front of them like a screaming flower, and love dies every hour. They cannot distinguish between fear and desire, and they know the danger of the situation, but they are helpless.

On my first day at a job in a jail facility I received tour. As I was being shown the intake and booking area, the deputy giving me the tour told me to turn around and face the wall. Something in his voice made me do so without question. What was going on was that at that moment an inmate from the areas high security prison was being brought in for his court appearance that day and he was being walked past where we were. I was not in any physical danger, but the deputy later stated that this inmate was actually one of the most dangerous people in our system. He had an eidetic memory and I was told I would not want to be on his radar in any manner. He had killed several people including his lawyer who represented him, attacked his second lawyer and now he was representing himself. Even though he had not yet been convicted he was being held in prison because he was too dangerous to be held in the detention facility.
He was later found guilty and is serving several life sentences.
An interesting side note is that he ran for political office from prison and actually received a certain percentage of the vote.
Edited to correct faulty memory.

You missed Harold Shipman in the UK. He was a doctor that killed 250 patients, mostly elderly people. He got them to include him in their wills and then murdered by overdose of a medication. Hung himself in prison.

@blackleague212

Wow must look that story up

@nonyabusiness2032

Yea, doing that would lead someone to off themselves. That's if they come to realize what they done.
