Fat Lip
Sum 41 Lyrics
Strollin' through the party like my name was El Nino
When I'm hangin' out drinking in the back of an El camino
As a kid, was a skid and no one knew me by name
Trashed my own house party 'cause no body came
I know I'm not the one you thought you knew back in high school
Never goin', never showin' up when we had to
Attention that we crave don't tell us to behave
I'm sick of always hearing act your age
Become another casualty of society
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down
Because you don't
Know us at all we laugh when old people fall
But what would you expect with a conscience so small
Heavy metal and mullets, it's how we were raised
Maiden and Priest were the Gods that we praised
'Cause we like having fun at other peoples expense and
Cutting people down is just a minor offense then
It's none of your concern, I guess I'll never learn
I'm sick of being told to wait my turn
I don't want to waste my time
Become another casualty of society
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down
Don't count on me, to let you know when
Don't count on me, I'll do it again
Don't count on me, it's the point you're missing
Don't count on me, 'cause I'm not listening
Well I'm a no-goodnick lower middle class brat
Back pack and I don't give a shit about nothing
You'll be standing on the corner talking all that kerfluffin'
But you don't make sense from all the gas you be huffing
'Cause if the ink don't stain, you'll be ringing off the hook
You're on the hit list, wanted in the telephone book
I like songs with distortion, to drink in proportion
The doctor said my mom should have had an abortion
I don't want to waste my time
Become another casualty of society
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down
Waste my time with a
Casualty of society
Waste my time with a
Victim of your conformity
And back down

"Fat Lip" is the first single off the pop punk band Sum 41's second album "All Killer No Filler". It is the band's most successful single, topping the Billboard Modern Rock chart, as well as MTV's Total Request Live and MuchMusic's MuchMusic Countdown in the summer of 2001.
The high-tempo song includes elements of rapcore, hip hop (particularly Beastie Boys), and pop punk, with Deryck, Dave, and Steve getting some lines in (Deryck providing some hip-hop while mainly doing the singing). "The verses are really about what we do: growing up in the suburbs, going to parties and hanging out with our friends, and causing trouble. A lot of people say they relate to it," said Whibley. The song gets its name from the slang term for a swollen lip as result from being punched in the face. Rolling Stone Magazine described the sound of the song as if Sum 41 went from blink-182 to Beastie Boys to Black Sabbath, all in one song.
With the departure of Dave Baksh, Steve has said Cone will be singing Dave's parts. The video was ranked at #75 on "Muchmusic's 100 Best Videos." The song is featured in several Movies and video games, such as EA Sports' NHL 2002, American Pie 2, Guitar Hero, GuitarFreaks V4 , and DrumMania (video game)|DrumMania V4. It also appeared on "NOW: VOLUME 8," and can be heard playing in the distance at the beginning of the music video for "In Too Deep."
The song is also played in the background during the season one Smallville episode titled "Leech".

This was a great time in music, anything went because everything was awesome if you just listened hard enough. So many styles, so many iconic songs. A few short bars take me back to highschool and the end of an era. Bring back those times, I'd give everything I own to be at that performance.
(So would you if you owned as little as I do)

Imagine if this era of music and clothing style never ended.

Then we wouldn't be able to tell the "young wippersnappers" how they're just recycling our style from our youth like my mom n pops used to do to me
