Came back to this. I've lost my passion for music and don't listen to it as much as I used to, or in the same way, but I keep coming back to this band. They're just good. This is well written and well produced. Any complaints a person could have with it would have to be stylistic.

Nick is awesome. Aaron is awesome. No one talks about Brian? He's the backbone of the first two. If you remove the bass from a song like this, 50% of its power is gone. So smooth, yet so brute. They're all so go(o)d damn!!! I don't know if Kurt mixed or just produced, but someone got sloppy at the low end... yet, pretty brooootal!

This is quite a change from the first album (the deal) but i really enjoy it! SOOO SLOW at the start, and absolutely pummeling. I'm still convinced that Nick has the greatest drum set on the planet too! And if you get a chance to talk to them they're the kindest human beings ever.

Sumac is just so massively heavy. It's crazy how defined their sound is already,they only have one album out but no one does it quite like them. These guys are each gods of their respective instruments.

+Joey Kiser Absolutely, I hear what you mean! The Torche trick is a string tuned to an indecipherable flabby mess once distorted through bigass amps. I too am guessing this, but I think it's choice select dissonance. Basically when you're playing guitar and hit a single note (in Sumac's case here), hit your lowest string and find the note an octave + one semitone up simultaneously. Total caveman terms and mightn't make sense but hey, it's a new age of heavy.

+Jesse Haywood Actually on a closer listen it seems to be a low G. Could be G, F, Bb, Eb, G, bb, like Old Man Gloom's "Eden's Gates" or "Predator". C Standard, with the low down to G and the high C down to B flat. This is only following Aaron Turner's tuning pattern across his bands though.

Sounds like its from thick to thin strings - AGCFAD
Whole thing tuned down a step or even a semitone lower then that. But instead of drop C it's drop A like a seven string guitar. Melvins/Neurosis kinda tuning. Mastodons first LP Remission is entirely in that tuning... I could be wrong but it's a sic sound nonetheless.

I get what you mean, but I disagree. It is crushing, crisp, chaotic, ominous and dreadful; qualities that Meshuggah have wonderfully distilled.. but that doesn't mean that Meshuggah has carved out the entirety of music's depths. So I see how that comparison can be made, but it is a broad stroke. But opinions on music and music in general are so subjective, and that's kind of the fun of it all. (I imply that Meshuggah is "djenty" because later "djenty" band have been moving farther from those comparable traits.)

This here is prime example that you don't need breakneck speed, blast beats, widdly diddly guitar solos, low growls, drop A tuning to be "heavy". This has neither and this, THIS is heavy as fuck.

Aaron does sing in rather low growls, the guitar is tuned to some alternate drop A (and drop A#) tuning, at times they play at a considerable tempo, and "Will To Reach" has blast beats. Just sayin'.
