In the beginning, Sunderland was the hit trio of their hometown of Hood River, OR, consisting of Mcknley Kitts on guitar/vocals, Dylan Bauld on bass/backing vocals, and Vaughan Heppe on drums. Playing at their local River City Saloon in front of an ever-increasing crowd every month. About two years later, the trio decided to expand their sound and add lead guitarist Zachary Grace to the team. Soon after becoming a quartet they began work on their first album, A Change of Pace (produced by Dylan Bauld and Sean Norton). The EP received a lot of attention from venues in Portland, and eventually lead them to open for national touring acts such as Play Radio Play, The Dangerous Summer, The Morning Of, Allstar Weekend, and Hedley.
Sunderland is currently in the process of writing and re-writing songs for their sophomore EP (Which has yet to be named). They will be heading down to Los Angeles in late October of this year to begin recording and producing the album with co-owner of Drive-Thru Records, Richard Reines.

Carolina
Sunderland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Eyes blue like the sea
All your preassure
Sure is pushing down on me
And through the static
You hear the noises
Telling you to leave
Like all the voices told me
I need a little room to breathe
Could you go? This is haunting me
you know I never meant no wrong
Tell me what it takes to see
How long you belong with me
No, I never meant no wrong
You're a liar (You're a liar)
I know you better than you know yourself
(Know yourself)
It's what you asked for
You don't deserve anybody else
Don't call me crazy
You know I did all of this for us
(All of this for us)
And baby lately
I've been running short on trust
I need a little room to breathe
Could you go? This is haunting me
you know I never meant no wrong
Tell me what it takes to see
How long you belong with me
No, I never meant no wrong
Oh don't leave now
Just stay
The song Carolina by Sunderland is about a relationship that is in turmoil due to the pressures of outside forces that are causing the couple to have issues. The opening lines illustrate how the pressure of the situation is affecting the singer by saying "All your pressure/Sure is pushing down on me." He then goes on to describe how he can hear the noises of doubt in his mind telling him to leave, but he is struggling to let go of the relationship.
The chorus is a plea for space and understanding, the singer asks for a little room to breathe and for his partner to leave him for a moment. It's clear that the situation is haunting him and he wants to figure out what it takes to see how long they belong together. He emphasizes that he never meant to do any wrong which suggests the issues they are dealing with are out of their control.
The second verse gets a bit more confrontational, with the singer accusing his partner of being a liar and suggesting that he knows them better than they know themselves. However, he also claims that everything he's done was for them, emphasizing how important the relationship is to him. The chorus repeats, with the singer asking for space and understanding, and for his partner to stay despite the difficulties they are facing.
Overall, the song Carolina is a poignant depiction of a relationship in crisis, with pressure from the outside world putting a strain on the couple. It's a song that many people can likely relate to, as anyone who has been in a relationship has likely faced similar challenges.
