Sunny started a band of a few friends; one of which helped him form the initial band itself. Between the time period of 1957 & 1958, Rudy Guerra and Sunny formed Sunny and the Sunglows which consisted of 6 teenage members; Norwood Perry (bass), Al Condy (guitar), George Strickland (drums), Rudy Guerra (saxophone), and Sunny Ozuna (vocals). The Sunglows played at Lackland Airforce Base and other military clubs around San Antonio. Though they were payed close to nothing, the thrill,adrenalin, and fun that the teens got out of having a band and performing kept them going.

About 1961 the members of the band were changed a bit, and Sunny was strongly encouraged to sing songs in Spanish. After much thought and convincing, the gigs and much of the song playlist took place in Spanish. In 1963 Sunny picked up some new band mates, Jesse Villanueva's The Rockin' Vees, in Houston, Texas. Upon doing so, the band's name changed to what we know today, Sunny and the Sunliners.

Sunny left the sunliners and became somewhat of a solo artist. Sunny and a trio of close friends(Freddie Martinez, Augustin Ramirez, and Carlos Guzman)better known as The Legends, earned themselves a Grammy in 2000. Currently there is strong talk about more work with The Legends as well as many various shows and appearances by Sunny Ozuna himself in the near future.

Years and years of fantastic musicians have entertained thousands upon thousands of folks all over the greater United States. My dad passed away about two years ago. And one of the fondest memories I have is of him and my mom dancing to this song together.

The year was 1963 and what awesome memories and especially seeing Sunny and the band on American Bandstand. It was awesome. Followed the Sun Glows and Sunliners for many years to many dances, most at the Pan American Ballroom (Mecca) for Tejano music at the time. Those were memorable times.

We had just arrived in NYC as immigrants the previous night. Our father, who had emigrated earlier, gave us a transistor radio for Christmas and this was the very first song we heard in the US. What a gem, eh.?

This is just one of the many great oldies we just don,t hear enough of. Cruising in my Low rider along Sunset Boulevard on Saturday night many years ago. Sean Green of the mighty 10.90 XPRS Los Angeles played this song. Well before he played it a young Chicana young Lady named Rosa was dedicating the song. She told Sean Green, I want to dedicate this song to my Italiano Amigo David. ( She saidit Daveed). Who is cruising right now. She said hey baby doll I want to see you again soon. Be safe out there. To this day I still do not know if she was talking about me. I never found out who she is. But I am Italian. Very strange indeed. I would like to have met her.
