God! Show Me Magic
Super Furry Animals Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I had a soul transplant operation,
Cause my bypass didn't function,
So now I'm keeping on my toes,
Till I see your one man show.

Show me magic,
Show me magic,
Show me magic,
Show me magic.

Wouldn't it be nice to know,
What the paper doesn't show,
What the TV doesn't say,
And what my hamster's ate today.

Show me magic,
Show me magic,
Show me magic,
Show me magic.

God! Show me magic,
God! Show me magic,
God! Show me magic,
God! Show me magic.

Show me magic,
Show me magic,

Show me magic,
Show me magic.

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Super Furry Animals' song 'God! Show Me Magic' create a sense of urgency and a desire for something new. The idea of a soul transplant operation is an exaggeration, indicating that the singer feels like they need a major change in order to function properly. The use of medical language paints a picture of a person who has gone through a traumatic experience but has come out the other side, ready to take on the world. The line "So now I'm keeping on my toes, Till I see your one man show" suggests that the singer is waiting for something or someone to show them the magic that they are seeking.

The chorus "Show me magic, God! Show me magic" acts as a plea to the universe to reveal something wondrous and extraordinary that is not found on the news or in day to day life. The line "Wouldn't it be nice to know, what the paper doesn't show, what the TV doesn't say" implies that there is more to life than what is presented to us on a daily basis. The mention of the hamster adds a touch of humor to the serious tone of the song, yet it also reminds us that there are still small moments of magic in the world that we might overlook.

In conclusion, 'God! Show Me Magic' is a powerful and emotional plea for a change in the mundane. It is a call to action to see beyond what is presented to us in our daily lives and to search for something more extraordinary.

I fell like a lot of people don't realize the brilliance of this band. Many just catch a few funny songs. Most don't realize to the band being amazing and Gruffa great unique lyrics (and they get more impressive the more you listen to them).

@J69er

Very underrated band !

@jools182

Love the diversity of this band. Glam rock to techno

@punkqueentheresa

I agree! This band has some really cool music!

@Amethyst_Friend

Which songs of theirs are techno?

@kingsnivy

@@Amethyst_Friend a quarter of rings around the world

@Amethyst_Friend

@@kingsnivy No it is not, sorry. Use of electronics does not equate to techno

@markmoore2625

Gotta love this band. Fuzzy logic's in my top 5 90's albums and are a spellbinding act live.

@madforit2

I know very little about the band apart from a handful of songs. I saw them play live in 2000 at a festival in Ireland having only heard 2 songs prior and was blown away. Unbelievable live

@carlpott2961

They never got better than the 1st half of the first album, but that was enough. Plus this vid is all kinds of brilliance.
