Green Greens
Super Smash Bros. Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A time to be reapin', a time to be sowin'.
The green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.
'Twas so good to be young then, in a season of plenty,
When the catfish were jumpin' as high as the sky.

A time just for plantin', a time just for ploughin'.
A time to be courtin' a girl of your own.
'Twas so good to be young then, to be close to the earth,
And to stand by your wife at the moment of birth.

A time to be reapin', a time to be sowin'.
The green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.
'Twas so good to be young then, with the sweet smell of apples,
And the owl in the pine tree a-winkin' his eye.

A time just for plantin', a time just for ploughin'.
A time just for livin', a place for to die.
'Twas so good to be young then, to be close to the earth,
Now the green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.

'Twas so good to be young then, to be close to the earth,
Now the green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.

Overall Meaning

The song "Green Greens" is a beautiful ode to the glorious days of yore, to simpler times when being close to the earth and living off it was the norm. The lyrics take us through the different seasons of life, comparing them to the different seasons of farming. The first verse talks about the time of reaping and sowing, and how the green leaves of summer are calling the singer back home. Sounds so heroic!

Poyostar

And now, please rise for the national anthem of Dream Land!

A magpie

Why wasn't this used in later Smash games? It sounds better with an actual orchestra. Oh wait, maybe it's because it has an ending that wouldn't work for looping.

Calum Bishop

No it was used for Planet Robobot, so they do have a loop version. Though why this was not in Smash Ultimate then is beyond me .

CrehperKavae

Why does this remind me of Kirby Green Greens in Smash Flash? And I do remember playing that game once, not on camera though.
