Na Na

Prosecutor, judge and jury
We've had this conversation in your head
'Cause I wasn't there you made up what I said
Or what I would have said
You know me so well
You've heard how I am and how I'm going to
Or should I be calling it a condemnation?
'Cause you're not listening to me
So na na na na na
That's all I'm gonna say
'Cause na na na na na
Made up your mind anyway
Na na na na na
There's nothing I can do
So na na na na na
Couldn't we be friends if not for you
I feel like the teacher from charlie brown
All you hear is that wah wah wah sound
Maybe I'm a pokemon pikachu
'Cause that's what comes out when I'm talking to you
You're a crusader, you've made me your fight
Your superhero name is mister right
Instead of trying to understand
Tell all your friends how wrong I am
And you're not listening to me
So na na na na na
That's all I'm gonna say
'Cause na na na na na
Made up your mind anyway
Na na na na na
There's nothing I can do
So na na na na na
Couldn't we be friends if not for you
Can't we be friends?
Why does it end
Before a word is even heard?
I look at you, your attitude
Why can't you see that it's not me?
Oops, I did it again, I see
The person I'm talking about is me
Assuming you're the enemy in the crosshairs of my verbal uzi
No matter who wins, we both lose
No matter who starts, we both choose
To keep it going on and on and on and on and on ...
But let's start listening and see ...
La la la la la
La la la la la
Sorry that it got this way
La la la la la
Next time I won't let it stew
La la la la la
Couldn't we start over, me and you?
In the first verse of the song Na Na by Superchick, the singer is addressing someone who is trying to build a case against her. The accuser is the "prosecutor, judge, and jury" in this scenario, and they have already made up their mind about what the singer would say or do in a particular situation. The singer feels as if the conversation has already taken place in the accuser's head, and they have twisted her words to fit their own narrative.
The chorus of the song repeats "na na na na na" several times, which the singer admits is all she can say because the accuser has already made up their mind. The singer has already been condemned in the accuser's mind, and there's nothing she can do to change their opinion. She laments that they cannot be friends because of the accuser's stubbornness.
In the second verse, the singer compares herself to the teacher in Charlie Brown, whose voice is unintelligible to her students. She also likens herself to Pikachu, the Pokemon character whose only sound is his name. The accuser is portrayed as a crusader who has made the singer into their fight, calling themselves "Mister Right" in the process. Rather than trying to understand the singer, the accuser tells their friends how wrong she is.
Overall, the song is a plea for understanding and patience in relationships. The singer acknowledges her own role in the conflict and wishes to start over with her accuser. She implores the accuser to listen to her and see things from her perspective.
