Cross the Line
Superchick Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Follow the leader, stay in the lines
What will people think of what you've done this time?

Go with the crowd, surely somebody knows
Why we're all wearing the emperor's clothes
Play it safe, play by the rules
Or don't play at all, what if you lose?
That's not the secret, but I know what is
Everybody dies but not everyone lives [Repeat: x2]

[Chorus]
I'm gonna ride like I've got the cops on my tail
I'm gonna live my life like I'm out on bail
I'm gonna be out front, gonna blaze a trail
I'm gonna cross that line

Everybody freeze, don't step over the line
Don't stand up, they'll shoot down the first one who tries
Try to change the world, they'll think you're out of your mind
Revolutions start when someone crosses the line

They want us to lie down, give into the lie
Nothing has to change, and no one has to die
That's not the secret, but I know what is
Everybody dies, but not everyone lives [Repeat: x2]

[Chorus]

[Repeat: x2]
I'm gonna cross that line

[Chorus: x2]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Superchick's "Cross The Line" tackle the idea of conformity and the fear of taking risks. The first verse touches on the pressure to follow the crowd and stay within the boundaries of societal norms, afraid of being judged or ostracized for deviating from the norm. The lyrics then take a more rebellious turn, encouraging listeners to live life to the fullest, to take the risks that come with blazing a new path, and to cross that line that holds one back from true success and self-discovery. The second verse touches on the fear of consequences when trying to change society and the need for a symbol or figure to “cross the line” before others will take up the cause.

The chorus reinforces the desire to take risks and to live life fully, not just playing it safe and following the rules. The repetition of the phrase "I'm gonna" implies determination and a must-do attitude, promising to take risks and to live life to the fullest. The line "I'm gonna live my life like I'm out on bail" highlights the idea of not taking life for granted and living every moment as if it could be the last.

Overall, Superchick's "Cross The Line" is a call to action for listeners to take risks, step outside of their comfort zones and not be afraid to challenge the status quo. It encourages listeners to not just settle for a mundane existence but to truly live and make the most of their lives.
