The Supersuckers formed in 1988 as The Black Supersuckers in Tucson, AZ. The original line-up was Eddie Spaghetti on bass, Dan "Thunder" Bolton and Rontrose Heathman on guitars, Dancing Eagle on drums, and Eric Martin as the lead singer. In 1989, they moved to Seattle, WA. Here, Eric Martin left the band. The remaining members decided to continue as a four piece with Eddie Spaghetti taking over the vocalist role. They recorded numerous singles for various small labels before being signed to Sub Pop. A sampling of these are collected on the 1992 release The Songs All Sound the Same. Their first album with Sub Pop, The Smoke of Hell, was released in 1992.
In 1995, guitarist Rontrose Heathman temporarily left the band. He was replaced by Rick Sims of the band Didjits for the recording of their third album, The Sacrilicious Sounds of the Supersuckers, and the subsequent tour. He returned for the recording of their fourth album, Must've Been High, which, as their first country album, was a major turning point for the band. Their fifth and final album with Sub Pop was their greatest hits release, 1999's How the Supersuckers Became the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. That same year they released their fifth studio album, The Evil Powers of Rock 'N' Roll.
In 2001, the band formed their own record label, Mid-Fi Recordings. In addition to numerous singles and several live recordings, the band released their sixth studio album, Motherfuckers Be Trippin' on this label. In May of 2005, they released the singles collection Devil's Food.
The Supersuckers latest release is a 2006 EP called Paid.

My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know for sure
Huh, but does she really want to?
But can't stand to see me
Don't try to fight the feelin'
'Cause the thought alone
Is killing me right now
Huh, thank God for mom and dad
For sticking through together
'Cause we don't know how, huh
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
You think you've got it
Oh, you think you've got it
But got it just don't get it
Til there's nothing at all
We get together
Oh, we get together
But separates always better
When there's feelings involved
If what they say is nothing is forever
Then what makes, then what makes
Then what makes, then what makes
Then what makes love the exception
So why oh, why oh, why oh
Why oh, why oh, are we so in denial?
When you know we're not happy here
Or y'all don't want me here
You just wanna dance
Don't want to meet your daddy
Just want you in my caddy
Don't want to meet your momma
Just want to make you cumma
I'm I'm just being honest
I'm just being honest
Yeah, alright now
Alright now fellows, yeah
Now what's cooler than bein' cool? Ice cold
Alright, I can't hear ya'
I said now what's cooler than bein' cool? Ice cold
Alright, alright, alright, now ladies, yeah
Now we gonna break this thang down
In just a couple of seconds here
You know we don't break it down like this
You must say, you gotta dig it when we do
Hey, I wanna see y'all on y'all baddest behavior
So lend some suga', I am your neighbor, come on
Shake it, shake it, shake it
Like a Polaroid picture
Shake it, shake it, shake it
Like a Polaroid picture
Shake it, shake it, shake it
Like a Polaroid picture
Shake it, shake it, shake it
Like a Polaroid picture
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
Hey ya, hey ya
The song "Hey Ya!" by Supersuckers is a cover of the hit single by Outkast. In this song, the singer reflects on his relationship with his girlfriend, who he believes loves him very much. However, he also wonders whether she truly wants to be with him or is just afraid of being alone. The singer encourages her to be honest with him and not try to fight her feelings because it is only hurting him more. He also thanks his parents for setting an example of sticking together, as he realizes how difficult it is to maintain a successful relationship.
As the song progresses, the singer begins to question the nature of love itself. He asks why people are so in denial about their unhappiness in relationships and why they settle for less than they deserve. He also acknowledges that their relationship may not be forever and wonders what makes love an exception. The singer then shifts to a more uplifting tone, urging listeners to dance and shake it like a Polaroid picture.
Overall, the lyrics to "Hey Ya!" reflect on the complexities of relationships and the importance of honesty and self-reflection in maintaining them. The song is delivered in a fun and energetic manner, with a mix of soul, funk, and rock influences.
