Unite
Supertones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Believer in Christ, yes, yes, the blessed fountain
Apologetic warrior, chalk one up for the visitors
Casting fierce some light into the shadows of midnight
To the underground we descend
With our whole generation to defend
Got a whole army on my case, got the devil in my face
Unite, ignite and spark a light to burn so bright
The sight will blind the blind of this our modern time
Oh yeah, I got a beef with the fence sitters
Tiers among the wheat, the cop outs, the quitters
Cut from the branch fruitless, no good
Only one use and that's firewood
Pay no mind to the generation line
Forsake your sect and be color blind
The problem's not Hollywood, the problem's not Washington
The problem's a weak divided church of schizoids Christians
Never going back the the darkness I was damned in
Now I turn my back on the place that I was found in
Flick a match on Babylon, burn baby burn
Raised my mind for all this time and now it's your turn
Got enough gasoline and plenty ol' matches
Finally I'm free and I shake off the ashes
From the city of refuse, I refuse to pay dues
To you, not me, and none of the free and the few
The Supertones' song "Unite" is a call to action for all believers in Christ to come together and defend their generation. The lyrics speak of the struggles and opposition faced by Christians who attempt to live their lives according to their faith. The first verse describes the lead singer's six years of sober living and his commitment to Christ. He is portrayed as an "apologetic warrior," unafraid to confront those who challenge his beliefs. The second verse calls for unity among believers and a rejection of sectarianism and division. The writer argues that the true problem facing Christians is not external, but rather internal, citing the "weak divided church of schizoid Christians" as the cause.
The chorus is a rallying cry for Christians to unite and let their light shine bright in the darkness. The writer challenges believers to forsake their fear and live boldly, even in the face of opposition. The final verse is a declaration of freedom from the darkness of the past, symbolized by Babylon, and a rejection of the author's former way of life. The song concludes with a call to action, urging others to join the writer in shaking off the ashes of the past and embracing a new, unified community of believers.

Christians, if each one of us as individuals focuses on Jesus, The
Author and Perfector (Maturer) of our faith (trust) (Hebrews 12:2), we
will see the manifestation of the truth He spoke in John 14:26 &
16:13 (John 14:16-17). And focusing on the Holy Scriptures is a
practical way to focus on Jesus - The Word made flesh (John 1:1-18,
etc.). How could we not all agree about everything (which really is
Jesus THE truth (John 14:6 & Colossians 1:15-20)) if we are all as
individuals choosing to trust Him more than anything or anyone else,
including ourselves (Proverbs 3:5-6), and allowing Him to heal our trust
(Hebrews 12:2 again) - and by allowing Him to heal our trust, we would
be allowing Him to heal our choices and actions. Does anyone make even a
single choice that doesn't follow their trust?
God Bless.
