In 1996, Oversoul 7 came together as members Geri Soriano-Lightwood, Ramin Sakurai, (Bassist)) Kiran Shahani, and (Guitarist) Rick Torres released "Nothing Like Tomorrow" and "What's the Deal" on two compilations on the Moonshine Music dance label. After the Moonshine releases, Oversoul 7 signed a demo deal with A&M records recording demos of "Truth From Fiction", "Never the Same", and "Last Girl on Earth", all songs which ended up on the now classic "Supreme Beings of Leisure" debut album (released on Palm Pictures label).
The release of the first Supreme Beings of Leisure album sold over 250,000 units with very little promotional touring. Instead, SBL opted to use the internet to market and promote the album, becoming the first band ever to do a "Virtual Internet Tour", and was among the first to use Flash animation for their videos, making them the first true "Internet Band" of the new millennium.
After the release of their debut album, the group disbanded. The core duo of Soriano-Lightwood and Sakurai, however, released the second SBL album "Divine Operating System" shortly thereafter in 2002. In 2003, SBL left Palm Pictures, taking a three year hiatus, releasing various remixes and appearing on various other artists' albums. In 2006, Supreme Beings of Leisure started writing material which coalesced into a new album, the highly anticipated 11i.
Truth From Fiction

While you were off there somewhere else
I was too worried about someone else
And her name could almost rhyme with mine
I never meant for you to feel this way
I never meant for you to feel this way
Can't tell truth from fiction
I said, pretty one listen to me
Truth is all that's asked for
And love is steering you to the inevitable
But you can't stop trying
Or you may start crying (but you know me)
I can't tell truth from fiction
I can't tell truth from fiction
I was too busy playing princess
While you're off there somewhere else
I was too worried
I was too worried about someone else
I didn't know the truth was mine (mine)
I never meant for you to feel this way
I never meant for you to feel this way (feel this way)
Can't tell truth from fiction
I can't tell truth from fiction
I never meant for you to feel
I never meant for you to feel this way
Can't tell truth from fiction
(Fiction)
The lyrics of Supreme Beings Of Leisure's "Truth From Fiction" tells a story of a person who was too caught up in their own life and self-centeredness to notice the person they loved slipping away. The first verse admits to the singer's own ignorance and self-absorption, stating that they were too busy playing princess and worrying about other people to see their lover's feelings changing. The second verse switches to the singer trying to offer advice to their lover, telling them that truth is all that's required in a relationship and that love will inevitably show them the way. However, the chorus reveals that the singer is just as confused as their lover, unable to differentiate between what is real and what is not. The song ends with the singer begging their love's forgiveness for their obliviousness.
Overall, "Truth From Fiction" exposes the singer's inability to see past their own desires and recognize the needs of their loved one. They offer advice and platitudes, but ultimately cannot tell the difference between truth and fiction in their own life, let alone their relationship. The repetition of certain lines, such as "Can't tell truth from fiction" and "I never meant for you to feel this way," drive home the point that the singer is regretful but unable to mend the damage done. The lyrics leave a melancholy and resonant impression, reminding listeners to keep a clear head and pay attention to those close to them.

Bought this CD when it came out. Moved several times and lost it. Rediscovered this tonight and wondering why I waited so long. Way ahead of the music put out today.
