STONED LOVE
Supremes [The] Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It will light up
It will surely light up darkened worlds
If you just believe
Stoned love
Stoned love
Stoned love
A love for each other will bring fighting to an end
Forgiving one another, time after time doubt creeps in
But like the sun lights up the sky with a message from above
Oh yeah, I find no other greater symbol of love
Yeah, don't ya hear the wind blowing
Stoned love
Oh yeah, I tell ya I ain't got no other
Stoned love
Oh yeah
And life is so short, put the present time at hand
Oh yeah, and if you're young at heart, rise up and take your stand
And to the man on whose shoulder the world must depend
I pray for peace and love, amen
Oh, can't ya feel it
Stoned love
I tell ya I ain't got no other
Stoned love
Oh yeah
If the war 'tween our nations passed, oh yeah
Will the love 'tween our brothers and sisters last?
On and on and on and on and
Stoned love
Oh yeah
I tell ya I ain't got no other
Stoned love
Can't ya, can't ya, can't ya, can't ya, can't ya feel it
Stoned love
Oh yeah stoned, stoned, stoned, stoned
Stoned love
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Stoned love
Oh yeah, yeah
Stoned love
The Supremes' song "Stoned Love" is a call for unity and love in the face of conflict and division. The lyrics are a plea for people to come together and believe in love, which has the power to light up the world and bring an end to fighting. The song emphasizes forgiveness, with a message that even when doubt creeps in, people should continue to forgive and love one another. The lyrics also call for people to seize the present moment and to rise up and take a stand, especially when they are young at heart.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of urgency, as if the message is one that needs to be heard and acted upon quickly. The repeated refrain of "Stoned love" emphasizes the power of love and its ability to change the world. The line about the wind blowing suggests that change is coming, and the message of love needs to be heard and embraced by all. The final lines of the song, with their repetition of "Stoned love," feel almost like a chant, calling on the listener to join in the message of unity and love.
Overall, "Stoned Love" is a powerful song that continues to resonate with listeners today. Its message of love and unity is timeless and important in a world where conflict and division continue to be major issues.

God bless Frank E Wilson for writing this and other timeless classics....All the Supremes had to do was deliver it in style and they did that in an abundance - one of the greatest Motown tunes ever

One of the very best Supremes songs....without Diana. Who would have guessed?! Jean Terrell was a very underrated singer, but had big shoes to fill, no doubt!
@tremekawilson9238
This is true

Gary, I agree...Motown tried to kill this record. The Supremes wasn't suppose to have a BIG hit without Diana Ross.

I remembered this song as being by the Supremes. But I didn’t realize it wasn’t Diana Ross singing at the time. Then I found it it came out in 70’s after DRoss had gone solo. But it sounded so similar to her.
