Their sound has been compared to a fusion of Talking Heads, Tame Impala, and Steely Dan, raised under the California sun. The band's creative process takes place in their house-turned-studio in Highland Park, where they self-produce all their music, utilizing an assortment of instruments scattered throughout the space.
Since the release of their single "New Biome" in 2016, Sure Sure has witnessed a rapid growth. Their subsequent releases, including the heartbreak-pop track "Friends" and the dance-infused "Hands Up Head Down," earned them acclaim and reached number one on the Hype Machine charts. Notably, they received praise from notable figures in the indie music community such as Grizzly Bear and Rostam of Vampire Weekend.
Sure Sure has established themselves as an exciting emerging band from the Eastside of Los Angeles. Their talent and captivating live shows have propelled them to perform over 150 shows in two years, sharing stages with esteemed artists like Young The Giant, Hippo Campus, Coin, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
The Caller
Sure Sure Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ooh, the call of the caller without a name
Hey man, hello, just checking in, let me know
Hey you, miss me? Are you still there? Please let me know
Ooh, well I lay in my bed like an animal
Ooh, and I talk to myself in unusual tones
Hey man, hello, just checking in, let me know
Ooh, well I lay in my bed like an animal
Ooh, and I lay in my bed like an animal
The lyrics to Sure Sure's "The Caller" can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but a common theme is one of isolation and loneliness in the modern age. The first two lines mention the "home of the modern age" and "the call of the caller without a name," which could represent the constant connection and communication we have through technology but also the anonymity and superficiality of those connections. The singer then addresses someone, possibly a friend or lover, with the repeated line "Hey man, hello, just checking in, let me know / Hey you, miss me? Are you still there? Please let me know." This could be seen as a plea for real human connection and validation in a world that is increasingly disconnected.
The next two lines repeat the animal imagery, with the singer lying in bed and talking to themselves "in unusual tones." This could be interpreted as a manifestation of the singer's loneliness or even mental illness. The song ends with a repetition of the animal imagery and the line "and I lay in my bed like an animal." Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone struggling to connect with others and possibly even their own sense of self.
