Global interest in Boyle was triggered by the contrast between her powerful voice and her plain appearance on stage. The juxtaposition of the audience's first impression of her with the standing ovation she received after her performance led to an international media and Internet response. Within nine days of the audition, videos of Boyle — from the show, various interviews, and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River" — had been watched over 100 million times, an online record. Despite the sustained media interest, she later finished in second place in the final of the show, behind dance troupe Diversity.
Boyle's first album, I Dreamed a Dream, was released on 23 November 2009, and has become Amazon's best-selling album in pre-sales. Its first single is a cover of the Jagger/Richards song "Wild Horses." The album includes "You'll See," "I Dreamed a Dream," and "Cry Me a River." According to Billboard, "The arrival of "I Dreamed a Dream" ... marks the best opening week for a female artist's debut album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991."

All I Ask of You

Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here, with you, beside you
Say you'll love me every waking moment
Turn my head with talk of summer time
Say you need me with you now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you
Let me be your shelter
Let me be your light
You're safe, no one will find you
Your fears are far behind you
All I want is freedom
A world with no more night
And you, always beside me
To hold me and to hide me
Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Let me lead you to your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
That's all I ask of you
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you
Share each day with me, each night, each morning
Say you love me
You know I do
Love me, that's all I ask of you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Love me, that's all I ask of you
These lyrics are from the song “All I Ask of You” featured in the musical “The Phantom of the Opera”. Susan Boyle and Donny Osmond’s version of the song carries the same message of love, support, and commitment. In this duet, they portray the two main characters, Raoul and Christine, assuring each other of their love and devotion. The song starts with Raoul promising to always be there for her and shield her from the darkness that haunts her. He offers her his love, support, and protection, urging her to forget her fears and trust in him completely.
Christine responds by pleading with him to be her freedom and her guiding light. She expresses her desire for a world without darkness and for a lifetime where they can be together, free and happy. In this moment, they both realize that their love for each other is pure and true. They conclude by promising to love each other always and to share a lifetime of love and happiness.
The lyrics convey the message of love, trust, and support, that two people promise each other when they are in love. They portray the desire to be together, to support each other, and to face the challenges of life together. The song has become an iconic duet in musical history and continues to be a beloved love song for many.

As a kid it was my sister who loved Donny i was always just a little more country then he was, but he was still fun to watch even then. They do make a wonderful singing duet together though.
