Global interest in Boyle was triggered by the contrast between her powerful voice and her plain appearance on stage. The juxtaposition of the audience's first impression of her with the standing ovation she received after her performance led to an international media and Internet response. Within nine days of the audition, videos of Boyle — from the show, various interviews, and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River" — had been watched over 100 million times, an online record. Despite the sustained media interest, she later finished in second place in the final of the show, behind dance troupe Diversity.
Boyle's first album, I Dreamed a Dream, was released on 23 November 2009, and has become Amazon's best-selling album in pre-sales. Its first single is a cover of the Jagger/Richards song "Wild Horses." The album includes "You'll See," "I Dreamed a Dream," and "Cry Me a River." According to Billboard, "The arrival of "I Dreamed a Dream" ... marks the best opening week for a female artist's debut album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991."

O Holy Night
Susan Boyle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of
Our dear savior's birth
Long lay the world
In sin and error pining
Till he appeared
A thrill of hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine, o night
O night divine
(O holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of
Our dear savior's birth)
Sweet hymns of joy
In grateful chorus raise we
Let all within hearts
Praise his holy name
Christ is the Lord
Then ever, forever praise we
Noel, Noel, o night, o night divine
O night divine, o night
O Holy night
The lyrics of "O Holy Night" by Susan Boyle speak to the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ, born on a peaceful and holy night. The first verse touches on the setting of this divine miracle, with stars shining brightly in the sky as a symbol of hope and promise. As the verse progresses, it speaks to the desperation and despair felt by the world prior to the birth of Christ, a world "in sin and error pining" for salvation.
The chorus, "A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn," is a powerful and uplifting message of hope that is relevant even today. It speaks to the transformative power of Christ's birth and the hope that it gave to those who were previously without any sense of purpose or direction. The second verse continues with this hopeful message, urging listeners to "fall on your knees" and hear the voices of angels who herald the arrival of the savior.
Overall, the lyrics of "O Holy Night" are an important reminder of the meaning of Christmas beyond the commercial trappings of the holiday season. They speak to the spiritual significance of the birth of Jesus Christ, and the hope that it brings to those who are feeling lost or hopeless.

My grandmother loved to sing. She absolutely loved Susan Boyle and her story of coming from nowhere and rising to the top.
One year in particular for Christmas we all laughed at her when she gave each of us a copy of the CD.
Then my grandma passed away.
She left a massive void in my life...
But, when I listen to this song, the void is filled for a few moments, my heart is mended for a few days and I truly understand why my grandma loved to hear this woman sing.
It means so much to me because it brings my grandma back to life every Christmas.
Thank you Susan Boyle and Merry Christmas forever.
