In 2003, Suh signed with Epic/Sony; she ended up working with Glen Ballard, a well-known producer/songwriter/arranger.At first, Ballard only agreed to produce a few songs for Suh, but he was so impressed with her work that he ended up producing her entire debut album (a self-titled CD that Epic released in April 2005).
With the album completed, Suh reflects on the making of her debut: "My mission has always been to create music that transcends boundaries, to make music that is universal."
Although Suh has lived in the United States her entire life, both of her parents are immigrants who moved to southern California from Korea in the '60s. Suh's involvement with music began when she was only eight and joined a Korean children's choir, whose repertoire ranged from traditional Korean songs to American pop. At 13, Suh left Los Angeles for New Hampshire, where she attended a boarding school and did her share of songwriting during her adolescent years; Suh was around 17 when she recorded a six-song EP, pressed 1,000 copies onto CDs, and managed to sell about 700 of them to her schoolmates.
After reaching adulthood, Suh attended Brown University in Rhode Island (where she obtained a degree in English), but spent as much time as she could visiting New York City and performing in Lower Manhattan clubs. A career in music is not something that Suh's ambitious parents encouraged — in fact, they tried to talk her out of it and encouraged her to go into a more stable, less volatile line of work. Music, they asserted, should be nothing more than a hobby for Suh. But her parents' lack of support didn't discourage the L.A. native; if anything, it inspired her to persevere and work even harder at having a career in music. "Your Battlefield," one of Suh's songs, was inspired by her career-related disagreements with her parents.

On this January day
When all my thoughts have gone astray
But I'm thinking 'bout you
And what do I do?
When I'm black and I'm blue?
And I'm still loving you
Oh, I'm missing you
Or maybe I'm just missing you
I was when I was with you
Oh love, Oh love,
Oh won't you come again?
Take me in your arms and hold me
Make me feel new again
And how do I convey
All the words that I could never say
To you when you were around
Oh, I'm missing you
Or maybe I'm just missing how
I felt when I was with you
Oh love, Oh love,
Oh won't you come again?
Take me in your arms and dance with me
Make me feel alive again
Oh love, Oh love,
Oh won't you come again?
Take me in your arms
And hold me
Make me wanna laugh and sing
Make me wanna feel alive again
In Susie Suh's song, "Won't You Come Again," the singer is struggling to come to terms with a recent breakup. The song begins with the singer wondering what to say on this "January day" when their "thoughts have gone astray." They are clearly still thinking about their ex, and missing them deeply. But although they are "still loving you," the singer knows that the relationship was "meant to end." The second verse continues the theme of missing the ex, and wondering how to communicate the things they could never say while they were together.
The chorus then comes in, with the singer addressing their ex directly: "Oh love, Oh love, / Oh won't you come again? / Take me in your arms and hold me / Make me feel new again." The song then continues with a second iteration of the chorus, where the singer yearns for the feeling of being held and loved by their ex once more, so that they can "feel alive again."
Overall, "Won't You Come Again" is a poignant and relatable portrait of the aftermath of a breakup. Suh's voice is haunting and wistful, creating a melancholy yet hopeful mood that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the pain of lost love.

you define the very essence of music.. in this twisted world of made up music you bring back the very DNA of what music is supposed to be. thank you susie for resurrecting the power of real music.. lyrics made to heal the soul..expose the truth and reach the inner most parts of our being.
