Echoes
Susumu Hirasawa Lyrics

ECHOES

ECHOES

ECHOES

ECHOES

ECHOES

ECHOES

ECHOES... ECHOES...
ECHOES... ECHOES...

ECHOES

ECHOES

Overall Meaning

The song "Echoes" by Susumu Hirasawa paints a surreal and dreamlike picture with its lyrics. The song seems to be about a fleeting memory from the past that haunts the singer, like echoing whispers that reverberate through time. The first verse sets the tone of the song with the lyrics, "いつか見たような 火の粉が降り" ("It feels like the sparks falling from the sky have been seen before"). This line suggests a sense of familiarity with a strange and otherworldly occurrence, as if the memory is not fully formed but just a distant echo. The second verse deepens this sense of déjà vu with "思い出せと燃えて 街が消えた日" ("The day the city disappeared in flames burned into memory"). Again, there is a sense of something significant but indefinable being remembered by the singer.

The chorus of the song, "ECHOES...ECHOES...," repeats throughout, and underscores the theme of memory and its echoes. The second half of the song seems to become more personal as the singer remembers a person from the past, perhaps a lover or a friend. In the bridge, he remembers a song that he can no longer hear, and wonders if his own voice will fade away. The song ends with the same ethereal and surreal air in which it started, with the singer pondering the passage of time and memory.

Overall, "Echoes" is a haunting and introspective song that conveys a sense of loss and fleeting memories that resonate through time. The lyrics evoke a dreamlike state, full of references to fire, sparks, and disappearing cities, which add to the ethereal feel of the song.

※ I feel I’ve seen these sparks raining down before
※ Burning, they tell me to recall the day the city vanished

# When did I descend the hill with you whom I’ve never seen before?

On the day the city I feel I’ve seen before vanished

There’s no reason you’d have been there, yet I go to visit you
and knock upon on a door I feel I saw that day

This house I’ve never visited seems so familiar
When did it disappear together with you?

There’s no reason you’d have been here, yet I knock upon the door

* When that song I cannot hear comes to an end,
* I wonder if this voice I recall will disappear

Miura said in an interview that he listened to hirasawa music while he drew Berserk so it was just the perfect fit

This embodies a strong sense of finality. I picture Guts and Casca sitting against a tree as they see their son and daughter playing with wooden swords. They smile at their children playing. The Brands no longer a mark upon their bodies. Finally knowing how it feels to live.

@onceuponarevenant9409

Me and the fans are longing for a ending like this, botb Guts and Casca deserve to be happy.
