Yeah, that was cringeworthy at best. Craig Ferguson has had his own problems, which probably accounts for his recognising someone else's struggle. He can be crass and ogle women with the worst of them, but I feel like even though he often makes me uncomfortable with that, he was in the vanguard of comedy shows capable of taking a step back and taking things seriously and not turning eveything into a joke. I think his audiences eventually realised that, but at that point it was probably utterly hardwired in people that everything a late show host says is a joke and everything is fair play for a joke.

I remember that incident he was talking about very vividly. Britney was walking down the street with her baby (I think it was Jaden), and paparazzi were in her face. She kept trying to just get by and she tripped. Thankfully she caught herself because they just took pictures and no one tried to at least grab the baby. When she finally made it to the car, she was hugging him and sobbing because it's terrifying to have thosr kinds of close calls. craig ferguson has always been one of my favorite late night hosts, and I really appreciate his brittney/anna nicole speech. You can tell how much people did not care when they laughed at anna nicole's death and for him, a male comedian, to very firmly say "why are you laughing, this is awful and serious" was a huge difference to many other similar male comedians, especially in the 2000's when it felt like misogyny and making fun of women for existing was the norm. I remember being a young, afab kid in the early 2000's seeing all of this, and genuinely not understanding why people were so mean to brittney spears or why they were so mean to this pretty blonde lady but having it hammered home that the correct thing was to hate them. truly the early 2000's was awful for young women.

Everything with Justin and how she got berated for her weight gain despite having lupus and even tho most of it was before she disclosed her disease, it just reminded me that we should never judge a persons appearance for several reasons, one of those reasons being we never know what someone is going through. Just had a conversation about the "toddlers to trainwrecks industrial complex" earlier today. My mom commented that while Taylor Swift has obviously had her struggles (i.e. developing an eating disorder due to her body being constantly commented on and criticized), she was surprised that Taylor never had the problems that many other child/teen stars do. My theory was that just like Miley, Taylor has a family that actually gives a sh*t about her and sees her as something other than a cash cow. Seeing all these women's stories laid out just solidifies that for me. So many women and girls rise to fame without a support structure OR with support structures that are only in it for their own gain, and it's all but impossible to weather the kind of pressure put on them by the media, the public, and executives without a support system that actually cares for their wellbeing.

As the new generation of young female stars starts to emerge, I just hope it's better for them. You can already see the hate building up for young women like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Madison Beer, etc., usually for no real good reason. Positive changes are happening and that trend will hopefully continue, but I hope that these new stars have real support structures for when society will inevitably fail them.

I remember my mom telling me about the picture, saying that Miley was bad (because I liked Hannah Montana at the time), and I was just thinking, "So? It's not like her picture was gonna be seen on the show." Though being in elementary school at the time, I also didn't realize how icky it was that she was a minor when the picture was taken (probably because I was a little kid and thought of teenagers as basically being adults. The issue was not the fact she was black, not once. That’s a lie propagated by the media and the studio because people had voiced their issues with the SCRIPT AND THE STORY of the film very early on. It became obvious over time the film would flop so the race narrative was introduced and became the leading “cause” for the flop, even though it had little to nothing to do with it.

And also, have a look at the CHINESE promo poster for the film where Disney did all in their power to cover up the fact that the actress they cast is black. You can’t see she is in that promo poster for the movie… doesn’t it make you wonder why? The company themselves covered up the fact that their work casting choice would not be well received with the Chinese government or audiences. Aka they were very well aware of it, but chose to do it because of ‘the message’.

This video makes me so sad. I was a young girl, growing up when most of these women were being tormented in the media. And I know for a fact that it fueled my internalized misogyny. I remember being a young teen and being so dismissive of Britney Spears or making jokes about Amy Winehouse's obvious addiction problems.

It’s so disgusting how the media treats women like monastery’s that have to be held to a high standard and then once they turn 35 (or sometimes 40 if they are lucky)they are tossed aside and forgotten

Judy's mother started giving her drugs as a child. I watched several documentaries about her. What could and should have been more of a blessed life, was a very tragic one. The drug use that she was forced to take as a child by her mom, was also later forced on her by the producers, directors and pretty much everyone else involved in making the movies she was in. Her mom (and later on the producers) gave her uppers to keep her more alert, so that she could work her to death, and then other drugs to help her sleep at night since the uppers were still in effect, and she couldn't sleep. She worked insane hours with hardly any sleep.

She, at a pretty young age, became vey addicted to the drugs, and was never able to kick the habit all together. She ended up using the drugs in the same way herself, as they had forced her to. Ultimately, it ended up taking her life. Not only did they force the drugs on her as I mentioned, but a lot of them treated her so poorly. Poor thing just wanted to be loved by her mother. Her mother only loved the fame and money that Judy could bring her, and she would make sure she got that fame any money by any means necessary. How could a parent do that to their child? It's disgusting and disturbing.

Yes! This! That's all I could think while watching her, how amazingly she presented herself there and advocated for herself. No-one should have to do that or be put in such a place.

I hate that. If a man were to react rashly during an interview people would be like "yeah, he's a victim!" but a woman is only allowed to be shown respect if she's cool and collected in such a setting. We're supposed to hold back and be the bigger person for the rest of our lives. It's just ridiculous

In regards to Madison, I remember the other day on an Instagram post, a whole bunch of women in the comments were trying to justify the hate she was receiving. It just looked ridiculous and pretty much summarized cancel culture towards women over little things

There’s something very chilling to me about Judy Garlands story. Probably because I’ve never known she was so mistreated up until like a year ago where I watched a YouTube documentary about it. I just can’t imagine, especially that time period from the very young age she was used and mistreated and then they wonder why she developed so many issues?!? Electro shock therapy? Pills to stay up and pills to sleep. Just horrifying. And then to see it happen over and over again with Marilyn Monroe, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, etc. And then you have women like Janet Jackson so harshly punished when Justin Timberlake skirts on by. Ridiculous.

I couldn’t finish this video. It was too infuriating to be reminded that we’ve been doing the exact same thing to female celebrities since the black and white era and everyone seems totally fine with it.
