Faze Me
Swain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What's madness, what's tranquility?
What's purpose in a life full of misery?
What's meaning if it does no good?
What's being an adult without your childhood?

What's money if you're always bored?
What good is a trip to what's already explored?
What's a band if you're not impressed?
What's sleep without unrest?

If it doesn't scare you, you're not doing it right
If it doesn't faze you, you're doing nothing at all

What's sex if it isn't rough?
What's a game if you're not calling a bluff?
What's a law if it isn't good?
What are ethics if they're not understood?

What's better than to break the chains?
Break it down until nothing remains
"What are the youth if they're not rebelling?"
We're not buying what you're selling

If it doesn't scare you, you're not doing it right
If it doesn't faze you, you're doing nothing at all

I am now
And I wanna be here; I wanna be scared again

Thrill me, faze me, kill my blues
And I wanna feel it; I wanna be nervous again

Overall Meaning

Swain's song "Faze Me" tackles the question of what makes life worth living, and what it means to truly live. The lyrics explore the idea that experiencing fear and discomfort are essential components of a fulfilling life. Swain asks a series of philosophical questions, such as "what's purpose in a life full of misery?" and "what's meaning if it does no good?" The song challenges the idea that a comfortable, safe life is the most desirable one.

Throughout the song, Swain emphasizes that taking risks and facing challenges are integral parts of personal growth, and ultimately lead to a richer, more fulfilling life. The refrain, "if it doesn't scare you, you're not doing it right / if it doesn't faze you, you're doing nothing at all," emphasizes this idea. Swain suggests that only by confronting our fears and pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones can we truly live.

The song also touches on themes of rebellion and breaking free from societal norms. Swain asks "what are the youth if they're not rebelling?" and declares "we're not buying what you're selling." The song seems to advocate for individuality, free thinking, and the rejection of conformity.

Overall, "Faze Me" is a thought-provoking reflection on what it means to live a full and meaningful life, and encourages listeners to embrace discomfort and challenge as a means of personal growth.
