September
Sweet & Lynch Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We woke to find the sky was turning black
Our frozen minds could not comprehend
On that bitter day there'd be no turning back
The wound never heals, the scar doesn't mend
No...

Do you remember?
Eleven September
We still feel the embers
In the cold of December

We stood in awe glued to the images
As the towers fall, a new world begins
We lost our peace and misplaced our privileges
But we gained our pride in the name of the twins
Oh...

Do you remember?
Eleven September
We still feel the embers
In the cold of December

[Solo]

Do you remember?
Eleven September
We still feel the embers
In the cold of December

Do you remember?
Eleven September

We still feel the embers
In the cold of December

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "September" by Sweet & Lynch can be interpreted as a reflection on the events of September 11, 2001. The opening lines of the song describe the shock and disbelief that many people felt when they woke up that day to see the tragic events unfolding. The use of the phrase "frozen minds" suggests a sense of paralysis or numbness, as people struggled to comprehend the scale of what was happening.

The chorus of the song then asks the listener directly if they remember that day, highlighting the lasting impact that it had on individuals and society as a whole. The line "we still feel the embers" reinforces the idea that the events of September 11th are still smoldering in our collective memory, years later.

The second verse describes how the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon marked a turning point in history, leading to a new era of global conflict and uncertainty. The loss of "peace" and "privileges" emphasizes how the world was forever changed by the events of that day. However, the song also suggests that the attacks sparked a renewed sense of national pride and unity, embodied in the "name of the twins" - a reference to the Twin Towers.

Overall, "September" reflects on a moment in time that will always be remembered for its tragic and transformative impact on the world. The song offers a message of remembrance, acknowledging the ongoing emotional resonance of these events as we continue to grapple with their legacy.

I grew up with both Stryper and Dokken. I'm in the same age range as Sweet and Lynch. In fact, right in the middle of them. I'm also a vet (USMC). I remember 9/11. Watching the video of planes hit the buildings.

At that time, the physics in my mind had not just yet registered. An aluminum plane cannot just slice through a steel building, like a hot knife through butter. I don't care if it is going supersonic. It doesn't work that way. Especially the first plane, hitting dead center. The nose would telescope against the even stronger steel elevator cage. Then the tail section would brake off and fall to the ground, the wings with it.

That is how planes are constructed, and simply the physics of it. I have been inside, and up and down WTC1 & 2. They were a marvel of architecture and construction.

We were certainly attacked. It was a true invasion. It was a foreign invasion, but not directed from Tora Bora. Most don't want believe where it was directed from, and who were the directors. If we truly wish to remember those that fell, then lets give them honor without mocking their sacrifice.

Until we recognize the true perps here, and bring them to justice, we mock those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, and their families. Lets not continue to do so:

Well I'm sorry to say but I could not get through it.
There were a couple licks that sounded a little maiden,
But I'm afraid if there depending on this song to carry the day,
Chances are It won't happen ,not singing mite help. writing trying to sing
About this subject more overtly might have helped. That was the worst day of my life
but 13 years ago, it has finally let me sleep. Most songs abut patriotisms
Don't do so well, and because Michael sweet, and all the religious background a lot
Will avoid it. Now! If stryper had done the album, there fans would have known exactly
What there buying. And its not a topic that most are into/patriots, religious kindness
Don't sell on metal radio or disk, john Lennon told the truth when he said,
The Beatles were more popular than god. I wish them luck.
