1) Alternating influences from neo-psychedelia, noise pop, and Ennio Morricone film scores, Swell formed in San Francisco in 1989 when vocalist/guitarist David Freel and drummer Sean Kirkpatrick decided to record an album. Enlisting second guitarist John Dettman and bassist Monte Vallier, the band recorded a self-titled debut album and released it on their own Psycho Specific label in April 1990. After playing live for the first time in August -- a support slot for Mazzy Star at San Francisco's I-Beam -- Swell toured around California, and released a second album, Well?, by February 1992. Though Dettman left the band soon after, Freel and Kirkpatrick soldiered on, receiving an offer from Def American Records to give Well? a wide release one year after its first issue. Adding guitarist Tom Hays to replace Dettman, Swell began recording their third album. The LP, 41, was released by American in November 1993. Subsequent efforts include 1997's Too Many Days Without Thinking and 1998's For All the Beautiful People. Everybody Wants to Know appeared in spring 2001.
2) The Swell are a young prog-rock instrumental trio, based in Melbourne; incorporating media and live generated visuals to their live performances. source: bandcamp

In The Morning
Swell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lot's of time, in the morning
It's nine, yes it's nine
Fall awake, in the morning
It's fine, yes it's fine
Get some rest, in the morning
On your feet, yes indeed
Brake a leg, in the morning
ANYWAY YOU WANT TO BE
I'M PLEASED TO SAY AND PLEASED TO SEE
MY ONLY QUESTION WASN'T THAT SO UNFAIR?
It's fine, yeah, so fine, a little test, in the morning
Past nine, petty crimes, in space and time, fill the morning
MY ONLY QUESTION WASN'T THAT SO UNFAIR?
I'M PLEASED TO STAY I'M PLEASED TO LEAVE YOU SOMEWHERE
Baby if things don't work out we'll grow up anyway
The lyrics to Swell's song "In the Morning" are poetic and enigmatic, offering a series of fragmented images that suggest a mood of uncertainty and quiet desperation. The chorus repeats several times throughout the song, with slight variations each time, creating a sense of circularity and repetition. The opening lines, "It's fine, yes it's fine / Lot's of time, in the morning," set the tone for the rest of the song, as if the singer is trying to convince themselves that everything is okay, despite some underlying anxiety or unease.
The line "Now I know you know your place, come and make yourself a real friend" suggests a longing for connection and companionship, but also a certain wariness or mistrust. The singer seems to be reaching out to someone, but also keeping them at arm's length. The line "Anyway you want to be / I'm pleased to say and pleased to see" offers a contrast, suggesting a more open and accepting attitude, but once again the repetition of the question "Wasn't that so unfair?" hints at a deeper sense of confusion or conflict.
