Lady Luck
Swift Richard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lady luck, she is lovely
Lady luck, she is free
But I wish sometimes that lady luck
She would find some time to spend with me

Why do I worry?
Why do I fear?
It's just the beginning
But I feel the end is near

I look around
And I don't feel like myself
Tell me please, tell me please
Is it my mind or is it my health?

Lady luck, she is lovely
Lady luck, she is free
But I wish sometimes that lady luck
She would find some time to spend with me

No need to worry
There is no need to fear
It's just the beginning
Though the end is near

Now sing it to me

Lady luck, she is lovely
Lady luck, she is free

But I wish sometimes that lady luck
She would find some time to spend with me

Overall Meaning

In "Lady Luck," Swift Richard reflects on his relationship with luck. He personifies luck, calling her "lovely" and "free," but also acknowledges his desire for her to spend more time with him. The song starts with Swift Richard's longing and romanticized view of luck, but quickly shifts to a feeling of worry and fear, wondering if the end is near. Swift Richard also expresses a sense of displacement, feeling like he's not himself and questioning whether it's his mind or health that's causing him to feel this way.

Through his lyrics, Swift Richard portrays the paradox of luck - the idea that we can't control our luck, but we still desire and hope for it in our lives. He also addresses the fear and worry that come with not knowing what our future holds. Overall, "Lady Luck" is a contemplative song about the uncertainty of life and the desire for something out of our control to go our way.

I saw him perform this song without ever hearing him before. I was completely floored by that performance maybe more than anyone I have ever heard for the first time.

Weird how over a decade ago, I dated one of his daughters in elementary and partially through middle school. I moved away and we stopped talking not much soon after.

I knew her dad was a musician, but never realized how prolific and talented he was until a few hours ago. Sad to see he died a few years ago. My heart goes out to his family and his fan base ♥️
