Besides the regular bass sound, the band's sound is topped by the modified basses, the Bass-o-rama, which sounds like a guitar, the Bass-o-la. The "Bass-o-la" is used to create a keyboard/viola-type sound for the third bass. The fourth bass sounds like a full drum set.
Switchblade Kittens came crashing onto the music scene with their punk rock cover of everyone’s favorite Titanic theme, “My Heart Will Go On”. This iceberg inspired hit hardly caused the Kittens to sink, instead the song began playing on over 300 college radio stations in the US, Canada, and Australia. The world famous KROQ in Los Angeles introduced the band over commercial airwaves with the cover but the Kittens main stayed in underground radio with their new tune, “Ode to Harry” a tribute to the character from the hit book series, Harry Potter. This helped pave the way to the UK, while playing on Steve Lamacq’s show on Radio 1 in the UK. Steve spread the cat scratch fever with an original Switchblade Kittens song, “All Cheerleaders Die” (the theme song from a B movie starring the quirky lead singer aptly named, Drama). Most notably, Switchblade Kittens is an all-bass, girl centric band. The band earned an international ad spot and sponsorship with ARIA basses for inventing two new bass sounds. The “Bassorama”, played by the band’s “token male”, is a bass that sounds like a guitar, the “Bassola” is engineered to play like a viola and keyboards and the "DrumBass" is engineered to sound like a full drumset. These basses, invented by the singer, give the Kittens an original sound to go along with their ultra-original look. The singer has rainbow hair and the Kittens come in rainbow colors. Their live shows have been described as a “small colourful punk rock amusement park contained on a stage”. The Kittens have been able to show their true colors live by playing shows from opening for the indie band, the Strokes at the South By Southwest music festival to performing on the Vans Warped Tour in 2003 and 2005.
The Kittens are promoting their second CD called "The Weird Sisters," released July 11, 2006. The CD is inspired by the Harry Potter books. Promoting this CD has led them to play sci-fi conventions and Nimbus, the first ever Harry Potter symposium. Because of this the Kittens do not take a stand on religion, but they do believe in clean living.
Their first CD is called Hey Punk! Try Heroine{s}. The name is an anti-drug statement encouraging people to try female heroes instead of the drug. Switchblade Kittens do not drink alcohol or participate in drug use.
Switchblade Kittens love Meg Cabot so much they decided to make their 3rd CD about Meg Cabot books. The CD will cover books from The Princess Diaries to The Mediator Series (and some of the adult books too). The CD will be called "Rebel Princess" and should be released April 2007. Switchblade Kittens is currently recording tracks for this CD.

Walk through my door don't need a key
My bookish frump dressed up a she
I put on your worn pink hoodie
And you say it looks better on me
Chorus:
Best Friends
Best Friends
Slight change when a friendship ends
Best Friends
And a some thing more begins
Best Friends
Best Friends
Verse:
You're my best mate since we're knee high
My amazed arms hold you when you cry
My strong had brushes your thigh
How I feel took me by surprise.
Bridge:
I like you, I like you
I think I think about you
I love you, I love you
I think, I think you like me too
The song "Best Friends" by Switchblade Kittens talks about a close friendship between two individuals that goes beyond the usual realms of friendship. The song's verses describe how one friend walks into the other's house without any need for a key while the other puts on their worn pink hoodie. This act is symbolic of swapping of possessions, which is often seen as a sign of a deep bond between individuals. The chorus cleverly expresses the ambiguous nature of their friendship with lines like "Hard to know where the line is" and "Slight change when a friendship ends."
The second verse gives us more insight into their friendship. They have known each other since they were young, and the singer always held their friend when they cried. The singer's powerful emotions seem to have caught them by surprise and left them grappling with their feelings. The bridge goes on to express how the singer has developed deeper feelings for their friend and now thinks about them a lot. The lyrics "I love you, I love you. I think, I think you like me too" suggest that the singer is aware of the possibility of a romantic involvement with their friend. Overall, the song is a poignant portrayal of platonic love that goes beyond the usual definitions of friendship.
