Daisy
Switchfoot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Daisy, give yourself away
Look up at the rain
A beautiful display
Of power and surrender
Giving us today
When she gives herself away

Rain, another rainy day
Comes up from the ocean
Give herself away
She comes down easy
On rich and debt the same
When she gives herself away

Let it go
Daisy, let it go
Open up your fists
This fallen world

Doesn't hold your interest
Doesn't hold your soul
Daisy, let it go

Pain, give yourself a name
Call yourself contrition
Avarice of blame
Giving isn't easy
And neither is the rain
When she gives herself away

Daisy, why another day
Why another sunrise
Who will take the blame
For all redemptive motion
And every rainy day
When he gives himself away

Let it go
Daisy let it go
Open your fists
This fallen world

It doesn't hold your interest
It doesn't hold your soul
Daisy, let it go

Let it go

Let it go
Let it go
And you let it go, go
Let it go, let it go, let it go
Go

Let it go
Let it go

Overall Meaning

In Switchfoot's song "Daisy," the lyrics speak to the theme of surrender and letting go in order to find redemption. The song begins by addressing "Daisy" directly and telling her to give herself away, which is likely a metaphor for surrendering to something greater. The rain is then used as a symbol of this surrender, as it comes down from the ocean and gives itself away to us. The lyrics suggest that if we can emulate this kind of surrender, we too can give something beautiful to the world.

You're loved more than you could ever. Jesus loves you even when it doesn't feel like so.

Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

... And that, boys and girls, is how Switchfoot's greatest album ends.

"But what about all their other albums, Daddy?"
"Yeah, what about Native Tongue?"
"And Oh! Gravity?"
"WHAT ABOUT VICE VERSES??"

Oh, I love them all. Switchfoot is one of the best bands of all time. But in terms of raw beauty, nothing they made before or since has topped this wall-of-sound masterpiece. It's such a tasty album, capped by just about the most perfect song they ever made. It's so delicious I feel like I don't need to eat for a week!

"That doesn't make any sense."

Shhhh, just hit Play again.
