In the early 80's, south of Montréal in Saint Bruno, Quebec, Rick (vocals) and Dan Hughes (drums) formed a heavy metal band called Sword. They were joined by guitarist Mike Plant and bassist Mike Larocque in the first lineup of the band. They signed their first commercial contract in 1984 with Aquarius Records.
Sword released two albums for Aquarius Records - the debut album Metalized in 1986 and its follow-up Sweet Dreams in 1988. They toured in the support slot for Motörhead, Alice Cooper and Metal Church, and the group was hand-picked to open for Metallica on the 1986 Master of Puppets tour.
After disbanding, Rick Hughes formed Saints & Sinners and released a self-titled album with them.
In 2006, Aquarius Records released a compilation album The Best of Sword, which was in stores on Tuesday, October 31.
Throughout their career, Sword sold in excess of 180,000 albums.
On February 17, 2011 it was announced that Sword had reunited and were rehearsing for live shows to come.
The band is currently working on the material for their new album.

I will see myself out
It's all blue skies
From the valley to the dell
With your magic around
You know it's gonna be a long time
Til I am back again
You know it's gonna be a long time
I'm good at small talk
How's the coffee
How's your health
Whatcha dreaming about
But it's a short walk
Between heaven and hell
I think I know that now
Light pours in
It fills my head with every sound
I hear without you around
You ever wonder
How it gets better in time
Will it get better in time
I started building my dream home
You're invited
I started building my dream home
You're invited
I started building my dream home
You're invited
In Sword's song Winter's Wolves, the lyrics paint a picture of revenge and a desire for vengeance. The opening lines serve as a warning, as the singer explains to the person they're speaking to that they will be responsible for the bloodshed and battles that will ensue. The singer then goes on to curse the individual and their kin, with the hope that the mountains and forests themselves will rise against them. The next lines are powerful, as the singer tells this individual that their weapons will fail them in battle and that they will feel their wrath. The singer even goes as far as to describe wanting to mount their heads on spears and watch their cities lay in ruin.
The singer then repeats the warning from the beginning of the song, explaining that the cursed individual and their kin will face bloody battles and will inevitably meet their doom. The singer then provides further examples of what they hope will happen to the individual, with the hope that the rivers will rush to drown them, the earth will swallow them, and the winter's wolves will surround and rip the life from their throats. Overall, Sword's Winter's Wolves is a powerful song of vengeance and the desire to see justice served.

Can't you see what you have wrought here?
Do you not realize the consequences of your actions?
Bloody battles will be fought here
There will be a lot of bloodshed and conflict here
May the mountains rise against you
I hope the mountains become an obstacle for you
May the forests block your path
I hope the forests become an obstacle for you
May your axes chip and shatter
I hope your weapons become ineffective
And know it is my wrath
I want you to know that I am the one causing these problems for you
I would mount your heads on the bloody spears
I would display your decapitated heads as a warning
Outside your palace gates
In a public and visible location
And watch as crows peck out your eyes
I want to witness your demise and suffering
And your cities are laid to waste
I want your cities to be destroyed
A curse on you and all your kin
I wish misfortune upon you and your family
Await your doom at empire's end
I expect your downfall when your empire falls
May the rivers rush to drown you
I hope the rivers become an obstacle for you
Nay the earth swallow your hosts
I hope the ground opens up and swallows your army
May the winter's wolves surround you
I wish for you to be attacked by wolves during the winter
And rip the life from your throats
I want you to suffer and die brutally
