Letters
Syd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So I read all your letters
I read every word
And I took all the best ones
Circled every word I heard
If I'd heard it in a phone call
Or I heard it in a song
And as I walked to your apartment
I tried to figure what went wrong

There was a party that night
I walked in uninvited
Was a girl in the corner
Who looked like she liked me
And I didn't know her name
But she said she knew mine
And nothing really mattered
And that was the first time
The first time

And I remembered your voice
And I remembered what you said
And I remembered how this killed me
With every tear that I bled
With every step came a memory
And every breath sang along
And as I walked up to your front door
I think I knew where I went wrong

There was a party that night
I walked in uninvited
Was a girl in the corner
Who looked like she liked me
And I didn't know her name
But she said she knew mine
And nothing really mattered
And that was the next time
That was the next time

Remembered every word she said
Remembered everything I'd left
And her eyes are clear like those tears that She gave me
And so it starts over again
Again

There was a party that night
I walked in uninvited
Was a girl in the corner
Who looked like she liked me
And I didn't know her name
But she said she knew mine
And nothing really mattered
And that was the next time

A party that night
I walked in uninvited
Was a girl in the corner
Who looked like she liked me
And I didn't know her name
But she said she knew mine
And nothing really mattered
And that was the next time

There was a party that night
I walked in uninvited
Was a girl in the corner
Who looked like she liked me
And I didn't know her name
But she said she knew mine
And nothing really mattered
And that was the last
That's the last time
Baby I promise it's the last time

The last time
That's the last time

Overall Meaning

The song "Letters" by Syd is about the aftermath of a failed relationship. The singer of the song has received letters from their ex-partner and has scrutinized every word, trying to figure out what went wrong. As they walk to their ex's apartment, they recall a party where they met another girl who seemed to be interested in them. The singer is haunted by memories of their former relationship - every step reminds them of the past and the mistakes they made. They arrive at their ex's front door, realizing that they knew where they went wrong. The song ends with the singer promising it is the last time they will make the same mistake.

The lyrics of the song indicate that the singer is still struggling to come to terms with their failed relationship. They are desperate for answers and are still trying to process everything that has happened. The song is a raw and emotional exploration of heartbreak, regret, and the difficulty of moving on.

I honestly thought the thumbnail was Olivia and then Olivia in a wig in the middle, until I read the description. Like it’s crazy how almost identical Olivia looks like her mom and acts too 😂 But I love it!

I’m an INFP-A mediator so I’m similar enough to Sydney lol Idk how I’m an A, I’m more A for anxious lol I’m ALSO A CAPRICORN lmao I’m a Cap Sun, Libra Moon, and Cancer rising. Like we have the SAME SIGNS omg 🤣

And it makes so much sense why you guys get along… you’re both Earth signs. My mom is also a Taurus and we get along well too (and butt heads).

I think that Sydney would be a counselor like the teacher role Cameron Diaz had in Bad Teacher (which is funny bc she becomes one by the end).

Also I’m a pop culture queen who knows how to make a reservation. Definitely accurate lol

so, at the third question I decided that I couldn't pick between the ones I liked, since I was unsure which was actually most applicable, so the percentages are weird, because for every question since I answered more than one, if trying to keep it as few as possible.

STILL
Here are my results:

14% for Sweet Little Golden Boy AND Sociopath... really compatible! Oh, also for Not Okay, which is really just doubling down on sociopath, ig.
29% only for Grunty Little Art Girl. Accurate.
43% for CHA0S TOR$ADO!!!!!, a slice of white bread dipped in a puddle of water, and cursed.

So in essence, I'm a walking contradiction, between lovable and horrible, disorgaknife and boring/orderly; which culminates in being a rather troubled individual who uses art and the pursuit of significance and beauty in everything they come across as a coping mechanism. Also, I might be the sweetest person that you should keep close to you but more likely than that is that I will fuck up your life.
I'm not reading too much into it and giving an examination of the results deeper than meant to be there, right?

But also, I think that's the power of personality quizzes/tests, generally; while they may or may not be completely accurate, they prompt you to think about yourself, the results and questions allowing you to find some part of you that maybe you weren't aware of. Like having a conversation with a friend who is casually but kindly challenging your preconceived idea of "you". But just as a friend like that can become annoying if they keep pushing it, or end up feeling like they're trying to tell you something yet are afraid to state it upfront, focusing a lot on those tests and results for their own sake rather than your own can get in the way of it actually benefitting you. Anyways, this quizz was fun, have a good day! pweeze take care of yourself, drink some water, I'll be in your kitchen at three am sharpening your kitchen knives.

Can we talk about how similar Olivia and her mom are? At the risk of sounding creepy, they have the same smile and eyes, their overall vibe and humor is similar too. I kinda want to see her father to see how much she gets from him, because she is a carbon copy of her mom.
