End & Start Again
Syd Matters Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I was trying to find the river's end
I was trying to reach my ocean friends
I didn't know exactly where I was going
'didn't know exactly if I was drowning down
But I was trying to reach my mother's ex
I was jumping over her and then I was bentI didn't know exactly where I was going
'didn't know exactly if I was burning clean
(chorus)
But I know in the sunshine's
It's not too late
That doesn't rhyme in the rainfalls
Down in the sunshine
Going on
Further rainbow
I won't get off (x2)
Find the ________________
Some of them will cry
Some of them will lie
Some of them will shine on
I could have known
They could have shown
But they didn't show at all
(repeat chorus)
In the sunshine going on
Though the rainbow
I won't get off (x4)
(verse)
I was cleaning the air of the human race
I was building spaceships to colonize space
(repeat verse) x4
The lyrics of Syd Matters's song End & Start Again are open to interpretation, but one possible reading is that the singer is on a journey to find themselves and their place in the world. The river and ocean may represent the vastness of life, while the mother's ex could symbolize a desire to break free from the past and move forward. The lines "didn't know exactly where I was going" and "didn't know exactly if I was drowning down" convey a sense of uncertainty and confusion, suggesting that the journey is not an easy one.
The chorus brings some clarity to the situation, with the singer recognizing that "in the sunshine's it's not too late". This could be interpreted as a message of hope or a reminder that there is always a new beginning. However, the line "that doesn't rhyme in the rainfalls" suggests that this optimism is not universal and may not apply in all circumstances. The rest of the song brings up themes of confrontation, acceptance, and perseverance, with the singer acknowledging that some people will cry, lie, or shine on. The final verse refers to "cleaning the air of the human race" and "building spaceships to colonize space", which can be interpreted as a rejection of the past and a striving for something new.
Overall, the lyrics of End & Start Again are poetic and thought-provoking, inviting listeners to reflect on their own journeys through life and the challenges that come with them.
