You got something for me
Something you call love
But confess
You've been messin'
Where you shouldn't have been messin'
Someone elseIs getting all your best
These boots are made for walking
That's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots
Are gonna walk all over you
You keep lying when
You oughta be a truthing
You keep losing
When you oughta not to bet
You keep same-in
When you oughta be changing
What's right is right
You ain't been right yet
Oh these boots are made for walking
And that's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots
Are gonna walk all over you
Well you keep playing
When you shouldn't be playing
You keep thinking
You never would get burned
A brand new box of matches
And what he knows now
You ain't got time to learn
These boots are made for walking
That's just what they'll do
One of these days these boots
Are gonna walk all over you
The lyrics to Sydney Devine/Tommy Scott's song "These Boots Are Made for Walking" are a classic example of a woman fed up with a cheating partner. The song is directed towards a man who thinks he can get away with unfaithful behavior. The tone of the female protagonist in these lyrics exudes dominance and empowerment, with her accusing and straight-forward language. She's fed up with the disrespect and takes control by letting him know that she has had enough. She starts the first verse with him telling her about his love, but then shortly admits that he's been unfaithful, which has resulted in someone else getting his best. The second verse is full of more accusations with her calling out the man on his lying and gambling problems. She highlights that "what's right is right" and he has yet to do right by her. In the final verse, she declares that she's done with his ways and has moved on to someone new. Her brand new box of matches represents her newfound flame, which will burn out what he knows.
Overall, the song seems to be a call to action for all women to not tolerate unfaithful behavior from their partners, but rather to take control of their lives and walk away from any disrespect.
