The Glow
Sylvan Esso Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Willy's so tall
And Avi's so fair
And Deanna's so beautiful
Pretending not to care

And I remember The Glow, oh, oh
And I remember The Glow, oh, oh
In my headphones
After school and slightly stoned
I remember The Glow

Meg is so snide
And Allie's so loud
And Micah's so dreamy
Shaking in the crowd

And I remember The Glow, oh, oh
Yeah, I remember The Glow, oh, oh

Walking back from the show
With my heart in echo
So alone in the snow
And Phil singing just to me, only

I remember The Glow, oh, oh
I remember The Glow, oh, oh
Yeah, I remember the glow
Oh, I remember the glow

It wasn't from a phone
And I knew I wasn't alone

I remember The Glow
Yeah, I remember The Glow

I remember The Glow
I remember The Glow

Overall Meaning

The song "The Glow" by Sylvan Esso is a nostalgic and introspective look back on memories of adolescence and the connections formed during that time. The lyrics mention various people, Willy, Avi, Deanna, Meg, Allie, and Micah, who seem to be friends or acquaintances from the past. The singer reminisces about a specific moment, listening to something on their headphones after school, feeling slightly stoned, and remembering the glow. The glow is a metaphor for a feeling of warmth and connection that the singer experienced in the past. The lyrics also mention walking back from a show alone in the snow, feeling a heart echo, and Phil singing just to them, which suggests that these memories are significant and emotionally charged. The song emphasizes the importance of those moments and how they have stuck with the singer over time.

The lyrics use simple language and an understated melody to convey a sense of intimacy and vulnerability. The repetition of "I remember The Glow" throughout the song highlights the importance of the memory and how it has stayed with the singer. The use of specific names and details adds a sense of authenticity to the storytelling, and the melancholic tone of the song captures the bittersweet feeling of nostalgia.

Overall, "The Glow" is a beautiful and introspective song that captures the mood and feeling of youthful connections and memories. It speaks to the universal emotions of longing and nostalgia and reminds us of how the small, fleeting moments in life can sometimes be the most powerful.

This brought tears to my eyes and I don't even know why... maybe because I feel as though "the glow" are those special moments you can only have in person with someone. I am about to be far, far away from someone I care about, and as the songs says, "It wasn't from a phone, and I knew I wasn't alone." Love those lyrics and love this song! Thank you for more amazing art!!

Fabulous! Got to seem them for the first time at the Traveler's Rest festival in Montana last weekend. They turned an otherwise hipster, alternative rock fest (awesome tho it was!) into a dance party for 45 minutes. What a great great achievement! I'm officially a fan now.

oh so you say you can psychoanalyze a person who you don't know nothing about, and judge it and use offensive expressions because that person likes/love or hate a song?is this really what you're saying? ;)

@georgitsa1

so you have all figured it out i guess!look your responses and attitude seems to me that you dont have the common sence logic or manners to talk with me, your stupidity can be infinity for all i know, i gave you the chance to take it back to feel bad but you dont have what it takes for that.Hide you little man hide well your complexes , your low self esteem , your inadequacy , you have or not knowledge of your nonentity and that's troubled enough..though i do believe the truth of that is behind the absence of love in your childhood!you and your fuckmind
