Hypnotize
System of a Down Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Was fashion the reason why they were there?
They disguise it, hypnotize it
Television made you buy it
I'm just sitting in my car and
Waiting for my
She's scared that I will take her away from there
Dreams and her country, left with no one there
Mesmerized the simple minded
Propaganda leaves us blinded
I'm just sitting in my car and
Waiting for my girl
I'm just sitting in my car and
Waiting for my girl
I'm just sitting in my car and
Waiting for my girl
I'm just sitting in my car and
Waiting for my girl
The song "Hypnotize" by System of a Down tackles the issue of brainwashing and manipulation by authority figures. The lyrics are a commentary on how the media can use people's subconscious impulses to control them. The reference to Tiananmen Square emphasizes the power of propaganda in keeping the Chinese people in a state of subservience to the government.
The line "Was fashion the reason why they were there?" suggests that the protests in Tiananmen Square may have been used by media to sensationalize the event and make it seem like a fashion statement or trend. The media often manipulates people into acting a certain way by making it appealing and fashionable.
The repetition of the line "I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl" adds to the sense of apathy and helplessness that people feel when their thoughts and emotions are being controlled. By repeating this line, the singer emphasizes that he is stuck in a situation where he cannot do anything to change his circumstances. He is waiting for a girl who is afraid of leaving her home and dreams behind.
Overall, "Hypnotize" is a powerful commentary on how propaganda and manipulation can be used to control people's thoughts, emotions, and actions. It serves as a reminder that we should remain vigilant against any attempts to control us and always strive for freedom and independence.

I can remember the first time I heard System of a Down on 98 rock , I was in shock of what I heard. My ears have never heard anything like them before. I wanted to hear more of them . When I saw the first video on MTV , I was completely blown away by this awesome band . I bought there cd’s and loved their music ever since. At 51 years old, omg I still enjoy their music to this day .
