Lost in Hollywood
System of a Down Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ah ah
I'll wait here, you're crazy
Those vicious streets are filled with strays
You should have never gone to Hollywood

They find you to time you
Say you're the best they've ever seen
You should have never trusted Hollywood

I wrote you and told you
You were the biggest fish out here
You should have never gone to Hollywood

They take you and make you
They look at you in disgusting ways
You should have never trusted Hollywood

(Ah ah)

I was standing on the wall feeling ten feet tall
All you maggots smoking fags on Santa Monica Boulevard

This is my front page. This is my new rage
All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care

(Ah ah)

All you maggots smoking fags out there on Sunset Boulevard
All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care

(Ah ah)

Phony people come to pay
Look at all of them, back to stay
Phony people come to pray

(The lines in the letter said)
Look at all of them, back to stay
(We had gone to reckon send)
Phony people come to pray

(Ah ah)
All you maggots smoking fags on Santa Monica Boulevard

(Ah ah)
All you maggots smoking fags out there on Sunset Boulevard

(Ah ah)
All you maggots smoking fags out there on Hollywood Boulevard

(Ah ah)
You should have never trusted Hollywood
You should have never gone to Hollywood

(Ah ah)
All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care

You should have never trusted Hollywood

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lost in Hollywood by System of a Down reveal the band's critique of the music industry and its impact on individuals. The vocalist cautions a friend against chasing fame in Los Angeles ("Those vicious streets are filled with strays...you should have never gone to Hollywood"). The lyrics seem to suggest that the music industry is predatory and will take advantage of aspiring artists. The line "They take you and make you, they look at you in disgusting ways" illustrates this notion.

Furthermore, the second part of the lyrics seems to be a commentary on the fame and narcissism that come with being a celebrity. The singer describes feeling empowered while standing on a wall and looking down at others. The lines "All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care" and "All you maggots smoking fags" further paint a picture of a violent, aggressive, and hedonistic culture in Hollywood.

Overall, the song depicts the pitfalls of the music industry, encourages the need for artistic integrity, and highlights the dangers of celebrity culture.

The old Pewdiepie outro ;_; (from like 7-9 years ago or something)
Takes me back to when I was about 11 years old watching horror stuff, friday with pewds, non-horror gaming vids, just goofing.
I didn't really know English back then but I think I understood enough due to just context I guess.I learned English from Pewds and Smosh lmao.
Never did I watch everything he put out cuz I was very selective with my entertainment. Used to watch some of the horror stuff in the evening and drink cola (which I didn't know contained caffeine) so I had insomnia for most of my childhood. It was thrilling though.
The non-horror games and other stuff were always my favorite past time. The best playthroughs were Shadow of the Colossus and Dark Souls.

Those were honestly quite uneasy times for other reasons. I don't know when exactly but during high school or middle school (I don't know what they're called in English) I stopped following Pewds' stuff. When corona became a thing I started watching his stuff again. Super different now but it's okay though.

Good times. Imma go and sleep, it's midnight and I haven't slept in about 36 hours damn. Last night I played amnesia for like 2h, was fun.
I'm so delirious rn. I'll probably edit this comment later to be more coherent or just delete it.

Tomorrow I'll start re-watching the old let's plays and friday with pewds series and just reminisce about the past and maybe cry. Ok, good night.

@MudkipPog

Most are disabled cause they're auto generated videos by youtubes copyright system

@DaRealBruner

@@MudkipPog Youtube's logic is fucking bonkers. Why is it a bad thing to comment on auto generated videos??

@Maty2001

@@DaRealBruner From my understanding, it's because those videos would have little moderation, so they would have more spam/etc comments than regular ones
