Outer Space
System of a Down Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Edmund Kemper solved it all
He fooled the shrinks
Fooled the shrinks
It then appears the proclaimation
He fooled the shrinks
Fooled the shrinks

Edmund Kemper solved it all
He fooled the shrinks
Fooled the shrinks
It then apears the proclaimation
He fooled the shrinks
Fooled the shrinks

The fortress of forever
Been forsaken
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye
Air, water, design
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye

Can we tamper
We have gained
Outerspace, outerspace
A million years
The devistation of
Outerspace, outerspace

Can we tamper
We have gained
Outerspace, outerspace
That's not true
that's not true
the human race, the human race

The fortress of forever
Been forsaken
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye
Air, water, design
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye

Fortress of forever
Been mistaken
Man made promise
Polluting of the sky ''(x2)''

The fortress of forever
Been forsaken
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye
Air, water, design

Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Outer Space" by System Of A Down are quite obscure and ambiguous, making it difficult to pinpoint a specific meaning. However, the song seems to refer to the human responsibility for the current state of the world, particularly our imperfections and shortcomings. The first stanza mentions Edmund Kemper, a notorious serial killer in the United States who famously outsmarted his psychiatric doctors. This reference to Kemper could imply our inability to fully understand the human mind or our failures in recognizing warning signs before they escalate into violence.

In the chorus, the song suggests that human beings have exploited the Earth's resources, contaminating its air, water, and design. The "blue dye" could represent the unnatural chemicals and pollution that have altered our natural world. The second verse includes the question of whether we can continue to tamper with the natural order of things and whether we have truly gained anything by pursuing space exploration. The song urges us to recognize our role in the destruction of our planet and to take responsibility for our actions.

Overall, the lyrics of "Outer Space" point to the irony of human progress and how we've allowed our achievements to be overshadowed by environmental degradation and disregard for the natural world.

This might be my favorite SOAD song ever. And it wasn't released. 😭

@sillygirl-

literally same

@ilarionmandelenis5845

one of best songs by system of a down. I'm sure there are songs we never heard that are great but a band has a reason to not release a song. Even one single lyric, a theme or a melody can be a reason to not release it. For example Fortress maybe reminded them another song of theirs or it explored things they already explored with another song(s).
