[1] Téléphone was an extremely popular French rock band that formed in 1976 and disbanded in 1986.
Téléphone re-energised rock in France with their electrifying concerts, yet they remained largely unknown in non french-speaking countries, probably because they always sang in French.
Almost all of its members went on to solo careers.

Et faites-en un roi
Couvre-le d'or et de diamants
Cachez-vous en attendant
Vous n'attendrez pas longtemps
Les vautours tournent autour
De l'enfant
Et les hyènes vont le dévorer
Le môme deviendra banquier
Ou le môme sera lessive, lessive
Je dis, argent, trop cher
Trop grand
La vie n'a pas de prix
Prends ton meilleur ami
Fais-en un ennemi
Je t'achète et je te vends
Vautre dans le coma
Do commun des mortels
Mon pote, t'es comme un rat
T'es commun, see'est mortel
Les vautours tournent autour
Toujours
Criez NON a l'esclavage
Et payez-leurs
De nouvelles cages
Faites installer des pièges
La ou commence la rage
La rage
E dis, argent, trop cher
Trop grand
La vie n'a pas de prix
Un compte bloque
L'autre a découvert
Maintenant, banque!
Les vautours tournent autour
De nous maintenant
Tu en as, tu n'en n'as pas
Tu n'as pas vraiment le choix
Un mur de briques devant toi
Il est temps, dépense-toi
Dépense-toi
Je dis, argent, trop cher
Trop grand
La vie n'as pas de prix
The song Argent Trop Cher by Téléphone is a critique of the corrupting nature of money and the societal values that prioritize wealth over everything else. The lyrics suggest that even innocent and pure things, such as a child, can be corrupted by the lure of wealth and power. The song describes a world where people are willing to do anything for money, including betraying their friends and enslaving others.
The use of animal imagery in the lyrics highlights the predatory nature of the pursuit of wealth. The image of vultures circling around the child emphasizes the dangerous and parasitic nature of those who seek to exploit others for financial gain. Similarly, the comparison of people to rats suggests that the pursuit of wealth and power has reduced society to a state of animalistic behavior.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the message that money is too expensive and that life cannot be measured in monetary terms. The lyrics suggest that society has lost its moral compass by placing too much importance on wealth and not enough on the value of life and human relationships.
Overall, Argent Trop Cher is a powerful critique of capitalism and the negative effects it can have on society. The lyrics paint a bleak picture of a world where greed and corruption have become the norm, and people are willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead.
