Potřeba strachu a proto tě vítám
Jsi jak černá vdova, plačící vlk
Kazatel hříchů a ďábel sám
Přestárlá kurva, hořící dům
Jak mozek blázna, bouře a zášť
The lyrics of Törr's song "Žal" portray a sense of haunting and despair, with the singer supposedly embodying the listener's pain and inner turmoil. The opening lines suggest that the singer knows the listener's pain better than they do and promises to reveal it to them. The listener is portrayed as searching for answers and perhaps reckoning with past mistakes, as they dig up graves of lost things. The singer is described as a ghostly presence, embodying fear and darkness, a black widow, a weeping wolf, a preacher of sins and the devil himself. The tone is ominous and foreboding, with a sense that confronting one's inner demons may be a terrifying and painful experience.
The lyrics of "Žal" are typical of Törr's style, which blends elements of heavy metal with Czech folk music and cultural references. The band formed in 1977 in Prague, Czechoslovakia and has since become a seminal influence on the Czech metal scene. The band's name means "thorn" in Czech, and their lyrics often draw on Slavic folklore, mythology, and history. "Žal" is one of Törr's most well-known and beloved songs, and has been covered by several other Czech metal bands. The song's title means "grief" in Czech, and the lyrics speak to the universal human experience of grappling with pain and suffering.
