T-Rock immediately moved to Memphis and began recording. His clever lyricism and tongue-twisting style immediately endeared T-Rock to fans all over the south. Widely regarded as one of the best lyricists to ever grace a Three 6 Mafia track, his appearances were partly responsible for the platinum successes of two albums and the sale of hundreds of thousands of other albums.
After a series of disagreements between he and his label, T-Rock decided to leave the Hypnotized Minds imprint he was signed to and embark on an independent career. Hooking up with his hometown crew Area 51, T-Rock went on to release several underground classics that have sold over 100,000 copies with barely any promotion or radio play. T-Rock has worked with a multitude of artists that include Too Short, Pastor Troy, Lil' Scrappy, Bo Hagon, Gangsta Boo, Lil Weavah, Max Minelli,Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Gangsta Pat, Al Kapone, Young Buck, Macboney & AK (of P$C) and Bizzy Bone just to name a few major names.
2006 was a great year for T-Rock and his fans as it saw the release of 'The Kush'. The album features production from M.A.J. of Xplosive Productions, DJ Cree, and T-Rock himself. Guest appearances include Max Minelli, P. Dukes of Countree Noise, and his Area 51 family. "This will be my most complete album to date," states the fiery emcee, "I've grown a lot and I believe its gonna show on this album." To say the south is waiting for this release would be an understatement.
Help Me God
T-Rock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
It,s the aftermath
I,m a maniac
And I,ll break your back
The reason I am this way
It,s psychiatric day
They gave me drugs
My psychiatrist said
I can fix your head
I can stop your pain
I,m gonna cut up your brain
Now my brain is dead
I,ve got an aching head
He ruined my mind
Put me in a grind
Said I,d settle down
Now I,m on the ground
I,m on the shelf
In the lost and found
The electric shock
Is a mental block
My psychiatrist said
You,re better off dead
Lobotomy
Brain surgery
Psychiatry
Criminality
In T-Rock's song "Help Me God," the lyrics delve into the struggles and consequences of mental illness, particularly the destructive nature of psychiatric treatment.
The opening lines, "I'm a psychopath, It's the aftermath, I'm a maniac, And I'll break your back," suggest an intense and volatile personality. The artist portrays himself as someone deeply affected by their psychiatric condition, with tendencies towards aggression and instability. This sets the stage for the exploration of the reasons behind his disturbed state of mind.
The following lines, "The reason I am this way, It's psychiatric day," hint at the artist's belief that his current state of mind is a result of psychiatric interventions. He seems to imply that his mental instability was aggravated or worsened during psychiatric evaluation or treatment. This could suggest his frustration and resentment towards the system that was supposed to help him.
The lyrics continue with an exploration of the negative impact of psychiatric drugs: "They gave me drugs, And now I chew the rug, My psychiatrist said, I can fix your head, I can stop your pain, I'm gonna cut up your brain." Here, T-Rock expresses the detrimental effects of medication given to him by his psychiatrist. He implies that the drugs have altered his mental state to the point where he feels disconnected from reality, symbolized by the reference to "chewing the rug." The mention of cutting up his brain could be interpreted as a metaphor for the invasive and destructive nature of psychiatric treatment.
In the subsequent verse, T-Rock reflects on the aftermath of his treatment, expressing distress and disillusionment: "Now my brain is dead, I've got an aching head, He ruined my mind, Put me in a grind, Said I'd settle down, Now I'm on the ground, I'm on the shelf, In the lost and found." These lines highlight the artist's perception that the psychiatric intervention has left him feeling mentally numb and debilitated. He feels abandoned and forgotten, like an individual discarded or lost amidst the failures of the treatment system.
The remaining lyrics touch upon additional aspects of psychiatric treatment. Mentioning the "electric shock" and the potential negative effects of a lobotomy, the artist suggests the desperation and desperation that can come with attempts to treat mental illness. The lyrics also hint at a connection between psychiatry and criminality, perhaps suggesting a belief that the mental health system can perpetuate harmful cycles or contribute to a sense of being trapped in one's own mind.
Overall, T-Rock's "Help Me God" portrays the artist's experience with psychiatric treatment in a raw and emotive manner. The lyrics appear to convey a deep sense of frustration, disillusionment, and the negative consequences that can come with seeking help for mental illness.
