SUNSET
T.B.M.P Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Black or white?
Will you look at what we were?
Whether wrong or right
No one can tell

Whatever it takes
The reason to believe you
I won't let go
Holding onto innocent meaning

Sunset boulevard
Don't fade away
Let's take a walk in the dark

Sunset boulevard
Let's make belief
All the water was written in your heart

Near or Far
It'll always lead to us
Whether high or low
We carry on

Whatever it takes
The reason to believe you
I won't let go
Holding onto innocent meaning

Sunset boulevard
Don't fade away
Let's take a walk in the dark

Sunset boulevard

Let's make belief
All the water was written in your heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of T.B.M.P.'s "Sunset" speak about the beauty and fragility of relationships, and the importance of holding on to the innocent meaning of love. The opening lines "Black or white?/Will you look at what we were?/Whether wrong or right/No one can tell" suggest that the relationship is ambiguous and open to interpretation. The next lines "Whatever it takes/The reason to believe you/I won't let go/Holding onto innocent meaning" express the singer's commitment to the relationship and their willingness to believe in it, despite any doubts or uncertainties.

The chorus, "Sunset boulevard/Don't fade away/Let's take a walk in the dark/Sunset boulevard/Let's make belief/All the water was written in your heart" uses the imagery of Sunset Boulevard, a famous street in Hollywood known for its glamour and allure, to convey the idea that love and relationships can be both beautiful and fleeting. The singer urges their partner not to fade away, and to join them in a walk in the dark, symbolizing the unknown and unpredictable nature of relationships. The line "All the water was written in your heart" suggests that the experiences and memories of the relationship are deeply ingrained in the singer's partner, and that they share a connection that goes beyond words and logical explanations.

Overall, the lyrics of "Sunset" combine vivid imagery with heartfelt emotion to convey the complexities of love and relationships, and the need to hold on to what is most important.

Thank you so much - I have searched 24 years for this track.
In the summer of '95, I would sit on the balcony with my flat mate Dave, looking at the Isle of Wight and watching the ships sail by into the sunset. He introduced me to Café del Mar, trance and euphoric music. It changed my life. I have never looked back.....
This was THE track which was played on vinyl over and over until the sun rose in the east. It is impossible to get TBMP Sunset - until now my friend.
That was our last summer on the balcony. Dave died of CJD. I now listen with a smile in my heart but tears streaming down my cheeks. Dave still dances in the eternal club.
Thank you
