Faking Love
T.G. Sheppard Duet With Karen Brooks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You turn down the covers
I'll turn down the lights
As we turn to each other
There's no turning back tonight

I lay on I love you
And you lay on your charms
As we lie here
In each other's arms

Faking love, faking love
Only temporary lovers
As we lie here to each other
We're just faking love

You put on the coffee
I'll put on a smile
We'll put each other on
And laugh and talk a little while

There's no use in crying
For a feeling that's all gone
We both knew we were lying
All along

Faking love, faking love
Only temporary lovers
As we lie here to each other
We're just faking love

Faking love, faking love
Only temporary lovers
As we lie here to each other
We're just faking love

We're just faking love

Overall Meaning

In T.G. Sheppard Duet With Karen Brooks's song "Faking Love," the lyrics describe a situation where two people engage in a physical and emotional relationship, but neither is truly invested in the other. The first few lines set the scene, with the lovers preparing for a night of intimacy, but there is an undercurrent of insincerity in their actions. As they lie in bed, they exchange words of affection, but it is clear that their feelings are not genuine. The chorus, "faking love, faking love, only temporary lovers," brings attention to the fact that this relationship is not a real, long-lasting one.

The second verse describes the aftermath of their encounter. They pretend to be cheerful as they make coffee and exchange small talk, but the sadness and emptiness of their encounter is apparent. There is no use in crying over "a feeling that's all gone" because they both knew that their relationship was based on a pretense. In the end, they are left with nothing but their memories of this temporary feeling of love which was never really love at all.

Overall, "Faking Love" is a somber commentary on the emptiness of physical relationships without emotional depth, and the painful realization that such encounters are ultimately unfulfilling.

The instrument backing is so good on this record. It's dark, moody, and brooding. Wrings alot of emotion out of 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

This song has Bittersweet Memories behind it. I heard it when I was in elementary school at TSB which stands for Texas School for the Blind. I had this stupid witch-house parent named Pat Bose. I remember whenever I would get in trouble in this town would be playing she would say you weren't good today so you can't do this or you can't do that and you would be on restriction. I hate restriction! I hate being grounded because that's just like restriction. Aaron sent a group and became apparent, I realize they were only trying to help me but the memories still hurt
