Are You Ready
T.J. Swann Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where you been?
Where you at?
Where you comin' from?
I need to know if
I Can trust
Can I love?
cre you the one?
I need you to show me
What you're made of
cctions speak loudly
and all you do is whisper,
Do you really miss her,
Or are you ready?

To move on to something real
cre you mine or nah
Just tell me how you really feel
Oh
I'm caught in the middle now,
Of your past and my future
When you are not around,
I get the feeling you're with her
No, I can't stay in between,
You need to choose
If you really ready, you say that your ready ...but are you?

What's it like
How's it feel
Do you mean it
To say that you moved on
Deep down, I know
She's your weakness
cnd you cannot stay strong
I just keep faith alive
Hoping that you'll see
That you should just be with me,
You tell me like its easy,
but are you ready...

cre you ready
To be with me
cre you
cre you
cre you ready
Babe
I know its been crazy
cnd I been waiting

For you
cre you ready

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to T.J. Swann's "Are You Ready" express the confusion of a person who is caught between their feelings for someone and their uncertainty about the other person's readiness to fully commit to a relationship. The singer is seeking reassurance from their significant other about their intentions and feelings, and trying to determine whether they are truly ready to move on from their past and be with them. The questions "Where you been?", "Where you at?", and "Where you comin' from?" indicate a desire for transparency and honesty, and a need for the other person to demonstrate through their actions that they are trustworthy and capable of love. The singer is frustrated by the other person's tendency to speak in whispers instead of taking decisive action and showing their feelings clearly. The repeated question "Are you ready?" serves as both a plea and a challenge, asking the other person to demonstrate their readiness to commit to a real relationship.

The song also explores the conflict between the present and the past. The singer knows that the other person has a history with someone else ("When you are not around, I get the feeling you're with her"), and fears being stuck in the middle of their past and future. The reference to the other person's weakness suggests that they may still have unresolved feelings for their ex. However, the singer refuses to stay in this limbo and demands that the other person make a choice. The repeated repetition of "Are you ready" stresses the importance of this decision and the need for the other person to be honest and committed.

I remember when I first heard this joint. I heard it at small record shop at the 42nd street train station on the A train. The store owner said, I gonna play a new rap record that nobody ever heard yet. When he played it, me and crew went nuts. I bought it and I still have that same record to this day.
