I watched this movie a few times when I was a kid. I was 12 years old and grew up in an abusive household. My mother and I were in fear a lot. Watching this movie again a few years ago, and even now, at 37 years old and with a child on the way, this movie just hits me in a different way now as an adult and soon to be parent. Butch had a chance in this film to be the kind of father with Phillip, that he didn't have. It's such a powerful scene to see where Butch kind of gave into the darkness here. PTSD from the violence he saw as a child and he probably became his father a little bit here yelling at Phillip, which he never did prior to being triggered. Makes you realize how deep the scars of abuse really go, even when you're not thinking about it. I picked up things as an adult watching this movie that my child mind never could realize. I think this might be Clint Eastwoods finest film.

The most haunting scene. The violence in this movie focuses more on violence towards children than violence towards adults, even though adults are shot In the film. Very methodical from Clint Eastwood. Kevin Costner has never been better.

At 55 years old, I still cry. And ten years from now, I hope I still do.

This scene from this movie added this axiom into my everyday life. Such a simple scene here, yet so powerful, and so exquisitely delivered. Three words that come so hard for so many to say, as if they must feel they are giving someone else control over them. "I love you."
It's so powerful... and so necessary.

Lasse Riise What makes things so precious is how rare they are. Hurt people hurt people. Lasse Riise, become the flower that grows in the crack of the pavement. The world will marvel at you.

I watched this whole movie again just to see this scene. One of the most intense scenes put in film.

Saw his movie when I was young. In teens. Thought it was very underrated!
