The Melody
T.M. Schiller Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's called dull life and it's showing at a town near you.
It's called real life, believe me every word I say is true.
Life's not cheap you know so priceless next to death,
live it while you can, live it every breath.
Straight lines. Black and white. A silent exhibition.
You don't have to be a prisoner of your own ambition.

Melody of life. We got a melody of life.
We are children of life in a reservoir of dreams.
We are counting on the night when nothing is quite what it seems.
They'll inspire your arrogance with a lack of thought.
Weilding power is a trick, so easy to be bought.
Nothing is too far away nothing's out of reach.
Look the world straight in the eyes. Stand on your own feet.

Melody of life. Symphony of love.
We got a melody of life. Symphony of love.

High life and low life and their life and your life
High life and low life and their life and your life

Melody of life. Symphony of love.
We got a melody of life. Symphony of love.

Melody of life. Symphony of love.
Melody of life. Symphony of love.

Overall Meaning

In T.M. Schiller's song The Melody, the lyrics in the first two lines contrast two types of lives – one called "dull life" and one called "real life". The former is apparently bleak and mundane, while the latter is described as truthful. The singer encourages the listener to live their life to the fullest, acknowledging that life is valuable and fleeting. The next few lines talk about how life can seem limiting, with "straight lines" and a "silent exhibition", but these restrictions do not have to keep someone from being ambitious or reaching their goals.

The refrain of the song, "Melody of life. Symphony of love," acts as a sort of mantra for the listener, urging them to see life as beautiful and rich. The next verse speaks to external pressure that could put the listener in a position of arrogance without a lot of thought, and how wielding power can be seductive and even corrupting. The singer encourages the listener to recognize that "nothing is too far away" and "nothing's out of reach," and to look the world "straight in the eyes" and stand on their own two feet. The song closes with a repetition of the refrain, calling on the listener to see their life as a symphony of love, and to embrace the melodies that it offers.
